    Hello everyone!! I'm a former O/O now looking to work for a company. I have a interview with YRC on May 30th. I was just wondering if anyone has any info on this company and life as a LTL driver. My driving experience consist of dry bulk tankers and containers so im pretty new to this type of work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!

    As a city driver I am on a 8am shape up. The shop steward comes in(union rep) and hands you your time cards. Go into dispatch and get your papers, tells you what truck/trailer/straight job you have and where you are going. As a new driver you will be going where ever they need you. You will then go over to your truck see what's your first stop and ask the manager to have someone move something of you need or want. Load your pallet jack and hand truck, lock trailer and go do your PTI. You won't have to hook since the yard switches hook your truck for you. As a city driver you will either be hitti g docks, or they unload you from street. There are some places that trucks aren't made to go into, just need to take it slow. Also at some stops you will touch the freight to load or unload. Pickups will be sent to you through out the day. Sometimes you might have to work as a dock worker shift. Either way you get two ten minute breaks and either half or hour lunch.

    As a road driver you will be going from hub to hub. You are paid by the mile. Once you get to the terminal You are then paid hourly. Sometimes you will wait for your truck to be ready whiles it's being finished and while the yard switcher hooks it. Sometimes if theres no switcher you will have to do it. You can also expect to be out for three days but they put you in a motel and even have a shuttle come for you, unless you run teams

    Great info ACH. Thanks alot. I hope to become a City Driver but i'm willing to do what ever they need me to do. What is the process after the initial interview? Is there a orientation that I need to attend? What time are the work shifts and will I have to work every weekend? Sorry for all the questions.

    My terminal does not work weekends. We have a 7am and 9am start time for the guys on a bid. The 8am guys are there for shape up and you might not work if slow. I had my interview and road test the same day but that's how we are. After that they do a backround check and then call you for drug test. After that they start you. We had no orientation but heard other terminals do

    Starting pay is 20.38 a hour. I got lucky and got the 8am start bid time right away, the guy beneath me has to call in to see if theres dock work or driver work. I work about 45-50 hours a week and bring in 650-710 a week after taxes. Granted Im 23 and live at home. I have only went home 3 times since hired... there have been close calls, but the terminal manager will find me something or someone wont show up. If you want to make more money you have to become a road driver, but there will be time spent away from home. At least with city driving you will average a 9-12 hour day, once you get sworn into the union then you will start seeing better places, more overtime etc... or so I hear from my co-workers
