Hi I am Meritor transmission in 2005 freightliner. My truck starts, for 2 minutes remain in CH and then goes in N. When I put it in D it shows the gear but does not move. It takes a jerk or 2 but does not role. If put in reverse sometimes it moves and sometimes does not. If someone can suggest anything .

There is a clutch actuator on the bottom of the transmission it requires air pressure to work. The transmission has its own dedicated air tank with a one way check valve designed to keep air in even if the truck is empty doesn't always work. On most trucks this tank is about 20 inches long, it should have its own valve so you can add air to it if needed manually.

The clutch actuator has a tendency to wear out and not function. There is a access plate on the bottom of the transmission 4 13mm bolts you can remove and view the clutch throw out bearing fork which can size up due to lack of greasing. Note there is an updated version of this fork which has clearance built in that does not use grease at all.

So i took it to the dealer and they dont know whats wrong with it but somehow they ended up making the EE light come on. Also none of the lights work on the gear where it says F N R. Would that still be the same problem? What are the things I need to check and fix? thanks

I don't know what you mean by the EE light. If the gear display and or the F N R on the shift stalk doesn't light up sounds like the transmission is not receiving power.

This transmission it is a Germain built transmission called the AS Tronic converted by Meritor to be used in US trucks. The transmission is powered with 24 volt Dc - It has a voltage doubler mounted on top of the trans to convert 12 to 24 for US trucks. If the voltage doubler goes out it wont have any power to the transmission.

Yes on the gear the lights F N R don't light up. But on the dash there's a gauge called ZF for the transmission. It used to display the code SM and CH before and after i got it back from the dealer now it started to display EE and stopped going into gear.
So do you think it can be the voltage doubler? how would i check if that's gone bad?

. Make sure the truck has air in the tanks. Stand outside the truck by the drivers door. When you turn the key to the first position with out starting the truck listen carefully - if the transmission has Power- You can hear the transmission do a clutch and system check .

The bottom line is you need to find a dealer that has some experience with the ZF Meritor Freedomline they need to have the software to communicate with the transmission.

I would encourage you to call ZF they have a technical line and can help you. 800-321-0784. I would ask them if they know of a dealer in your area that has experience with this transmission.

You can retrieve fault codes using the two buttons on the shift lever (this method doesn't work for freightliner). See attached picture. 20200329_124647.jpg
