ACCIDENT WITH TWO SEMI'S SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL AND CLOSES HIGHWAY
December 24, 2014
The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate an accident this morning that sent one driver to the hospital and closed the Hwy 15 and Hwy 32 intersection for hours. The accident occurred when a westbound semi pulling a load of pigs pulled into the path of a southbound semi and trailer hauling grain. The southbound semi struck the westbound trailer in the trailer and crashed through injuring the driver. Mark Hyatt, 55, of rural Norfolk was taken to the West point hospital for treatment. The driver of the westbound semi, Scott Brester, 39, of Howells, declined medical treatment at the scene. The west bound semi was carrying about 175 pigs with about 25 that were killed or put down after the accident. The accident still has the highway closed as of 1:00 p.m. and three large wreckers were working to clear the wreckage. A fire was quickly extinguished in the westbound semi after the accident. Rescue crews from Howells and Clarkson also responded to the scene and assisted area neighbors in rounding up numerous pigs that had fled from the wreckage. The junction is about 8 miles northeast of Clarkson. -
