By my own admission, I had to learn the hard way when I was starting out. It involved a high-berm railroad crossing, really bad/non-existent signage and a $400 fine. ###### right I learned my lesson from that point on.

I've learn a few things the hard way as well.Would'nt be human if you didn't make mistakes and the thing is any normal person wouldn't make the same mistake twice. But unfortunately they're more robots on our roads these days then ppl with common sence.

I find that the street view of Google Maps is handy when you see a bridge you have to go under...street view shows the height signs

Came across Geo Washington Bridge this afternoon working my way down to Maspeth the signs say "Trucks Must Exit 41 and 40. So got off at 40 and my GPS is scolding me to get back on. I'm like I so don't need to get lost around here so trusted the GPS and got back on there and next thing I see is 12'10" bridge and way too fast to stop. Evidently it is one of those that is measured from the wheel hubs up because the bridge did not hit my trailer.

Yeah, I can always tell the guys that are heading into NY for the first time by the last minute swerve to the exit or the smoking brakes.

I like the part where the first car and the second, then the rest immediately turn around without any disregard for the drivers well-being. Its like they've seen this so many times they know they need to turn around before they get stuck.

I use mine, but anymore, I use it for traffic flow and to find fuel. I get sent to some weird places that GPS doesn't think exists. It's nice to get that chirp that there's a road blockage ahead and I have the opportunity to detour around it.

Don't feel so bad; I did exactly the same thing my first time across, too.
