Dupre Logistics recently invested in SmartWay-approved trucks for its fleet. A hundred certified tractors are expected to join the fleet over the coming year, . The new tractors use engine standards, tire maintenance, aerodynamic styling and idle control technology to cut emissions.
Dupre’s president and chief operating officer, Tom Voelkel, said the gain in fuel efficiency justifies the greater cost of the new vehicles. “As part of our continued commitment to ‘Always Forward Thinking’, Dupre prides itself on being an early adopter of this new, efficient technology,” said Voelkel.
The Environmental Protection Agency and trucking industry have partnered to create the SmartWay performance specs, which aim to reduce freight transportation’s carbon impact.
