Turning Radius Guidelines for Trucks
The truck shown is a standard truck used by CXT Incorporated. The information below will help you determine if your building will make it to your site (special arrangements MUST be made for Double Cascadian and Double Cascadian with Chase).
Standard height of building on the truck is 13’6″. If you have low power line, bridges, tree limbs, etc. please call the Logistics Coordinator at 800-696-5766 for special arrangements. Standard widths change on each building. Please refer to building dimensions for widths.
Turning Radius
If your road has tight corners use these steps to help determine if we can access your site with a standard truck.
Step 1 – Determine angle of the corners and road width requirements.
If the angle falls between two of the angles listed, use the larger angle.
Step 2 – Measure road width.
If your road width is equal to or greater than the width listed on the chart, the truck will be able to reach your site.
If your road width is less than the dimension listed on the chart please call the Logistics Coordinator at 800-696-5766 for special arrangements.

Currently i am designing the roads inside a refinery. main roada are 9m wide, while the access roads are 6m wide. I would like to know what radius i should adopt at the junction of 9m and 6m wide roads.

A good rule of thumb I’ve used for the last 10 years with mainly 53′ and 48′ trailers:
Don’t try to turn around unless you have at least 4 1/2 to 5 lanes of road worth of distance (this has to be kind of eyeballed) or you won’t have enough room to get the tractor all the way turned OR if you three-point turn you will jack-knife and not have enough radius to get the trailer all the way turned. One results in getting the tractor stuck and the other involves getting the trailer wedged in to the side of the tractor.

Print and scale the above template.A b-double or semi have a minimum of 12.5m(about 41′).Measure your haul trucks preferred radius and apply to the above template.

There are some software packages that handle turning path. Our company uses AutoTURN and it seems to work quite well. Hope that helps.
