Easiest way to member...
After 8hrs in sleeper, you get what was left on the last shift.
if you drove 7 hrs in a 9 hr period, then after 8 in sleeper you will be able to roll 4 hrs on a 5 hr shift. -
Not exactly .. if the 2 hours you didn't drive during that 9 hours was contiguous and off duty, then you also get back the time prior to the end of 2 hours and the 2 hours.tinytim Thanks this.

Its not... drove 7.. 15 pre/15 post or 5min pre would not give u 2hrs....
Trying to keep it simple stupid (KISS) not you ... idea... so keep it simple and u will have the guaranteed time next shift as stated.
Getting technical, then yes, you are correct, except the 14hr clock for that next shift would have started when the 2hr break was up in that first shift that previous day and the 8 sleeper would just finalize.
All kind of ways to do it, but to start, so you get a understanding then KISS... (for those newbies) Dont show them College geometry when they only in Kindergarten math. Give it time. -
My ELD (Maven) messes this up more often than not.

Yea.. some ELD just not set with complete dot rules.. mines puts me in violation onduty after 14hr (not driving)

Hello there can anyone tell me more about the split time
So I usually drive from canada to usa 28 hours of driving, I usually drive total of 10.5 hours in a day ( i do take 30 min to 1 hours off before the 8 hours driving) and than take 10 hours off.
With the split time how can I make it better ? Can I drive like the same amount of time than sleep for 8 hours and drive another 10.5 and sleep another 2 hours will this reset my time ?
Im sorry but I'm new on the trucking and with buses you can't do this -
Could anyone tell me, does this explanation correlate to the current (2021) rules? Everybody is so scared of this split break since they brought it back, but I want to know what my options are so I can benefit from it when I need to. Thanks in advance

scottied67 Thanks this. -
Yes, 8/2 o 2/8 is still in effect. They have added a ton of flexibility to it now to include a 3/7 or 7/3 as well. It is my understanding that we can do 2.5 hour break then a 7.5 hour break as well or any combination over a minimum of 2 hours but less than 3 and the balance more than 7 but less than 10 for a legal split.
