Just tell the cows to take the day off.

    See how easy that is?

They could close the roads if they get 2 feet of snow and blizzard conditions

I'm in the same kind of boat all winter, just not right now. I run a loaded tanker out to these kinds of places.

Have you already called those 5 customers today to talk? If not, WHY NOT? If not, get on your phone now, driver.

They might adjust their own schedule if they can't milk on time. They probably already have a backup plan you might not know about. Its all up to your customers. If they do run normally, they're the ones who will be hooking up to you and dragging you in and out, plowing the path, whatever it takes. Carry several phone numbers for each customer so you can get hold of someone if/when you need help.

Carry plenty of fluids, food, warm clothes and a scoop so you can dig if you need to. And your phone charger.

We're the drivers that run when all others are looking for a place to pull in and wait it out. Good luck and let us know what happens.

One thing to note. Weather.com is crap in predicting snow fall. Around here its always 3-4 times predicted as what falls. Accuweather is tons more reliable here.
For example today's snow storm weather.com was 5-8", while accuweather was 1-2". Got about 2-2.5" Every single storm in the last three years I've been paying attention follows that pattern.

    Lol.

To heck with that nonsense. If a farmer chooses to operate with less then adaquate storage that's his problem. Not the truckers.

@ad356 , we've spoken before. Let me know how it goes for you; I'm heading into Cleveland / lake areas tonight, myself. What you get tomorrow is what I'm hitting in a moment or so. I've got a hotel on 'reserve' myself....!

Be safe, always YOU first. (Some of these O/O's beg to differ, God love y'all's, @TripleSix et al... ) It's a fine line. @skellr 's post was SPOT ON. I couldn't've said it better.

Heck, one of my FAVE O/O's (@wore out ..sorry, R.) got some downtime for the flu/bad cold. Cattle were fine. Cows will be also.

Let us know, please? I've been following, between naps .. and my impeding departure to brave this b/s myself.

Best choices, best of all..stay safe first and foremost~

If you do get on the road, call every one of your stops in the morning before you leave to pick up the first load. Let them know that you do plan on arriving, but it will be at least a little late. Ask them all to prepare the driveways for you, and to please be ready to help with a tractor or even something heavier if they have it. Make absolutely certain you have frame hooks on the truck before you leave, so you can be easily pulled with chains.

Call every farmer again when you are getting ready to leave the stop before them, so they can be sure to be as ready as possible for your arrival.

Hell, you might already be doing this, but those farmers will know you are going to have a bad day, and they want to keep you rolling so they make money.

^^^ Again, awesome post . . . great advice. That's how we roll here in Ohio. For instance, I've had the rig with an empty in my driveway, ON the concrete pad, gravel all around; yet my neighbors (farmers) up the road, fire up their IH's, JD's, etc...if they see me seem to be suffering. Great thing about us country folk.

YEP, always make sure to haves TOW GEAR ... yourself. Frame hooks, straps, chains, et al.

Great advice, sir. Just made it to Fremont in this fun weather..

    Be safe, y'all~!!
