This is going to sound pretty grotesque, but our terminal facilities are so over the top disgusting that I refuse to use them. I go tinkle in the back of the empty trailer lot. Hit up the rest area for anything else.

I've been hearing from other drivers about it, but haven't experienced it myself. YET.

Wisconsin, has in my experience always closed its small wayside rest stops. That are not manned. But only for the off season. They have been re-opened every year around the middle of May.

Minnesota, has thus far had their larger sites open for business. And they have been cleaning them regularly.

I haven't stopped in any of the Iowa rest stops.

The fuel stops that I have used have been open for use. Kwik Trips in Clear lake Iowa, and Webster City, Iowa. As well as the Holiday in Rush City, MN.

So are ours. I’ll water the grass behind an empty trailer before I roll out in the mornings.

Turns out all 25 of my stops today are essential and will remain open. Guess that means business as usual.

I actually had one today going to a mall.

The place was as deserted as the moon.

I got a rant. Ok, it's more of a complaint rolled into a rant. But maybe someone can enlighten me on this.

So last week we had a terminal wide briefing. The gist of it was that if we missed more than three days of work during a single workweek they would cut our health benefits/insurance. But they also came out asking that anyone with flu related symptoms be tested and self isolate. It's the right and most ethical thing to do. And I do agree with that part.

Here is my question... And I am not trying to come off as a selfish jerk. But let's say I get this thing that is going around and I am part of the 70% that has mild symptoms and can "ruff it through". What exactly is my motivation supposed to be potentially forced quarantined for ,two weeks without pay and lose my health benefits? Cause let's say my wife ends getting sick and needing hospitalization. Now not only are both of us sick, but now we don't have insurance.

Maybe someone can give me some insight. But right now I've been sitting here scratching my head.

did you talk to your companies HR to get clarity? I ask because it is most likely for corona virus you are exempt. For other reasons you are not exempt from that issue. I say this because my company is pretty much said, you test positive for COVID19 you're good to go, no occurrences no PTO used. We're paying your arse to stay home. lol

They specifically told us that our loss of benefits would be directly tied to if we popped hot for Covid-19. I know some other companies negotiated some stuff to shell out 40 hours of paid time off per week and up to 2 weeks if someone was quarantined.

We asked if we would be covered under FMLA since we had more than 50 drivers and were told that under the current law, our company could also dip into the first ten days of our vacation and PTO if they wanted to.
