I would look for clarification, often sick leave and vacation time, floating holidays, whatever, are treated as you having been at work. They don't want to be paying insurance on people who can't be bothered to show up for work though.

It sounds like they want you to make it official if you take time off by using STD or FMLA, and yeah that’s pretty ####ty of them.

FedEx finally came out and said you get 14 paid days off you test positive, and also if you came into contact with someone and they specifically tell you to stay home for 14 days. But if you haven’t been exposed and still don’t feel safe coming to work, it’s up to local leadership on how they want to apply the attendance policy.

Funny story. One of our toilets was leaking. They had to call a second plumber because the first one refused to work in our bathroom.

Guy out of my barn said he will be back when this is over. Doesn’t feel safe. HR said they can’t do anything about it.

I got clarification on that one and we don't have that option. 3+ days of unexcused absence in one week and they cut our healthcare and we don't get paid. And DHEC mandated quarantine is not an excuse to them. Only safety net we have is FMLA in which case they can burn up our PTO and up to 2 weeks of vacation.

This might sound like a jackhole move and you guys have every right to flame me and lose respect for me on this. If I get sick and show mild to moderate symptoms, I will not self ID to get tested.

I am ok without the two weeks of pay, but to penalize me to cut my families insurance in the process? What is the incentive to self ID?

Perhaps not infecting others and causing someone elses's loved one harm. I do under protecting your family. But it sounds like your company are turds in this time of need.

    I'm with Runner.
There are too many OTHER viruses out there ALREADY, to waste time getting tested for this ONE. When showing mild to moderate symptoms.
Herd immunity is a good thing.

I have to agree as well.

That is exactly the wrong approach to take in a situation like this. When doing what SHOULD be the right thing turns out to be actually tantamount to shooting yourself in the foot, what kind of message does that send?

On top of that, and as new as this is, now they are saying this is a seasonal thing. So come next winter/spring, this will pop up again. Like are we supposed to jump through all these hoops next year?

    Its a VIRUS.
Its going to run its course. SOME will die, and MOST of those will be elderly with underlying health concerns making THEM, more susceptible to this.

    THAT'S JUST LIFE.

Life is difficult. The sooner we remember that, the better off we'll ALL be.
