Just out of Curiosity, how come almost all Flying J (in house) restaurants are all gone expect for the one in Rapid City? I remember 10+ plus ago, those were the best restaurants like Country Market, Chinese Eatery, I mean that stuff was the real deal. It was indeed better than Iron Skillets, Country Prides and Golden Corrals. The many truckers seemed to love stopping there and now it’s been replaced by Denny’s. The location in Rapid City SD is pretty decent too. I’m just wondering if it had to deal with the merger? Seems to me Pilot ruined The J’s reputation too

If you remember in 2004 hos rules changed soon after the unstoppable 14 hour clock the truck stops all changed and the rise of overgrown 7/11’s now dominate the travel center industry. That it seems the new drivers like this fast food garbage. Drivers like me cook almost every meal in the truck and eat healthier as well.

Pilot and flying f were supposed to merge to help flying j come out of bankruptcy. But old man J died in a plane crash. So pilot took over Flying J, then set up contracts with Denny's. They figured this would bring more people in.
But there was a screwed up thing about it. They didnt even offer the employees from the prior restaurant a job. Denny's told them they had to fill out applications like anyone that came looking for employment. Since denny's took over the restaurants in the flying j, several drivers said they missed the real food of the old restaurant.alds and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -

I ate at the denny's for the first time ever at the flying j in dallas when they opened it there. After eating that B/S I said to my self how did this place get so popular in the 90's. The food there is pure garbage!!!

I have heard that Dennys is premenantly closed in all flying J locations.. as in never coming back. I wonder if a replacement will come or if it's just going to be fast truck stop food.
I have food in my freezer so that I don't have to subsist to truck stop garbage, but I still miss being able to unwind every once in a while by eating at a sit down resturant. -
