Anyone who wants to lease onto a motor carrier, my recommendation is always try to acquire your tractor some other place than the same motor carrier who will be in charge of keeping you planned up on loads. They do have their age old tricks to prevent you from success, one of which is to limit your miles down to 2000 a week or fewer on average. It doesn't take very many weeks for the average trucker to throw in the towel when that happens. Most of the time this will happen when the lease term is almost down and the truck is almost paid off.
The reason they would want to do this is because they can take the truck back which you owe about $60,000 on and turn around and lease it back out to another driver for $100,000 and pocket easy money. At the same time, they will 'fix' and 'refurbish' the truck and backcharge the previous lease op around $9000, just enough to drain their maintenance account perfectly so they get zero nothing at the 45 day mark after termination.
When you bring your own tractor from another source, you are protected from those predatory practices; you simply terminate and separate from the motor carrier and lease onto another one or get your own authority. -
The real money at JCT is in the recruiting. $2500 per driver. Recruit 20 drivers a year and make more money than driving....drvrtech77 and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
Seems a bit unsound to not be able to pick your own freight and rates. Then trust in someone you don't know and has no vested interest in your "business" to determine your success. Nevermind living in a truck away from any life or people you know for weeks on end running your balls off for a whopping 800 to 1000 bucks a week pretax or medically insured.
But hey.... I'm glad that's your happiness. Sure as hell ain't mine.nredfor88, scottied67, Western flyer and 1 other person Thank this. -
Update. The latest settlement which came in today was $1250. That was with 2950 miles. Next week, I am getting just a hair under 3200 miles and I was busting out a minimum average of 8 mpg for those 3200 miles.

Hmm. Coming back from California two days ago I saw two JCT trucks on the side of the road. One had the tow truck hooked up to it and the other had the hood up and triangles out.
I thought to myself "Sure glad I don't drive that companies junk."
Last week as a company driver I did 3700 miles with 1750 dollars that week. And if the truck breaks I tell them come get me.
