I've been to the northeast one time, when I was like 13, I have no desire to ever go back, if I never go east of the Missippi is fine with me.

There is nothing wrong with that. My reply was more about lane averages

You got it totally wrong. Just because he tried to scam me into offering same load I done 15 days in a row for $1600 for $900 , didn’t meant I accept it.
I came back home empty 750 miles , don’t haul cheap freight!

Deere hunter and FoolsErrand Thank this.

I deadhead a lot too. I still am at about 2 dol per loaded mile so far this year. With deadhead though, I am at 1.65 per all miles up to date.
I deadhead a lot because I hate to sit in one place and wait. I did more than once 750 empty miles going home from bad areas because I had a picnic done at home over the weekend.
I refuse to spend weekends at Petro in Carlisle, PA lol

Rate averages are almost always lower west of the big river than east, have been for as long as I've been listening to dad, uncles, and grandpa talk about trucking, that's why they've almost always run out to the Chicago area and back unless hauling livestock. There's exceptions to that of course.
Choosing to live in and operate in the Midwest generally means cheaper freight, and buying a hopper bottom instead of a flatbed was probably not the brightest thing I've ever done either.

Don’t get me wrong, I dislike brokers as much as anyone but not related to what they pay. If it doesn’t work for me then I don’t haul it. I could care less what the shipper is paying them. It’s my responsibility to know the lane I run, my worth and what it takes to make a profit. And be able to negotiate that rate with broker, shipper or move to a better lane.
It amazes me that some of our fellow truckers think that the govmt will or should step in and tell one industry how much profit they are allowed to make so that another industry can make more. SMDH! If your that friggin stupid you deserve to go out of business.

Why? Does the broker get to know how much the producer has in the widget he produced. Do you want to have to show the broker or shipper how much profit you made on a load? Just for transparency?

In 2018 everyone was here with "Truckers make a lot" idea asking how to buy truck without money. Now new trend is "Brokers make a lot" Park your truck, apply for broker MC, order your Lamborghini and enjoy your life.
