    Hello.

So I was trying to start up my DD60 engine in my truck after the winter, tried to use ether to start it, and it tried to crank over at least a few times and started twice, but then died due to the fuel system having air in it.

After the last time I tried to start it, it almost cranked over, stopped, heard a CLANK and it just stopped turning over. No clicking, no movement, nothing coming from the engine, compressor, radiator, nada. I only hear the relay engaging. I also smelled something burning.

I worry I broke the engine, but that doesn't make sense because it would still be trying to start, somewhat.

    Can anyone help? Thanks

How much ether did you spray down its throat?

half a can, but this was over an hour-two hours and my mechanic said it was fine.

Change starter. If you can hear a click when you push the start button - probably starter.

Try rocking it in gear if you can -

Half a can over a couple hours probably wouldn't lock it up.

I'd say check that you've got power at the big battery cable on the starter cable. Then check that the little wire to the solenoid gets power when you hit the starter button. If that all checks out good, likely a starter. If no power on the small wire when you hit the starter button, follow that wire back until you find the issue.

Yeah thats most likely what it is. Cause if the engine locked up I would be getting a fault reading, or at least some type of movement from the engine bay, both of which is not happening. Thank god.

Yeah I don't think the engine locked up. The burning smell and clank only occurred right after the last try in which it tried to start, which leads me to believed that the starter got burnt out, hence why no movement whatsoever. If I locked up the engine I would be getting some type of movement.

Why not try to bar the engine over? Before you go any further. You’ll know right away if it’s locked up.

Engine is difficult to get to. What makes you think the engine is locked up?
