Also, do you know why you rarely hear the good about Swift and always hear the bad? They ones who are happy with Swift are out running the miles!

I can tell you want they mentioned to me about the terms. I wrote all the stuff down but i currently can't find my notepad. from memory, I work basically a year for them in exchanging for reduced pay during on the road training and during my first year ( its said to be around $ 50 off during the first few weeks of training from the 450 per week they give you and the last 2 weeks of training it goes up the 75 but your pay goes up to 500..not sure what the rate is after that). The training cost is at 2900, but i'd like to double check first. If things go wrong im not sure if they charge the cost of training plus some extra but i would assume it to be aroung 3000. As for training after the academy, i was never told how long i would have to wait, i didn't get the impression that my recruiter knew about this becuase wait times seem to vary, but i will ask. I know that i'm to go back home for short period of time (undefined btw) and go to orientation at the nearest terminal. After that, i have to go through the 6 wk training on the road. hope that my wait time for a trainer isn't that long, i'd like to get started as soon as possible.

i'm glad you decied to go through the company training route. i picked it becuase it was the best option for me. I dont have any bills, no wife or kids to take care of (so i can go at reduce pay for sometime without much issue). I also dont have money to pay to go to truck driving school( even i did i know that student drivers have issues getting hired due to lack of experience after graduation). Also, I have prior experience for the last 2 1/2 years of being in a semi truck (mostly in the jump seat, but got to drive it a few times)

i see company trianing this way. If hired, you get some basic training, plus on the road training, guarenteed position( for the most part) and that necessary 1yr experience needed for employment mobility between companies.

what company are you planning to go with btw? When i find my pad, i will tell you what i have written down.

    Thanks Russ,

your pretty much summed up what i had in my mind. There will be bad things and there will be good things, but with a positive mindset, you can make it through.

Also, i have a question about running. My friend says that its likely i'll be sent to new england often especially in my first year. I know when he started for transport america, they did that to him. How true is this for swift? i'd prefer to do 48 states and canada, but would like to not stict to one area for too long. Wouldn't mind seeing the west to ( however my ultimate priority is to go where the miles are decent..)where does your costco dedicated loads mainly depart and arrive at? the recruiter has told me that the average miles is around 2300 a week, is this around where your miles are? also is there more miles in refer or dry van

lol i'm well aware of to not step in strange liquids in the parking lots. i have seen well..how should i say...'filth' people dish out in the lots.. so i will defintely not do the same to others.. the same is true for grassy areas around truckstops and restareas ( pets)...

    thanks for the input

    Josh

I thinking of going with swift, Can anyone tell me if they do a credit check for the tuition? How long do you go before you start getting paid? Where do you take your cdl test if you live out of state? Any answers would be great.

i can try to assist you in anyway i can..
from what i know the training is paid off when your work for them. they dont/didn't do a credit check for me when considering the tuition i have no credit anyway... you start getting paid during the 6wk training with a mentor. thats after the swift academy schooling( 18 days) and after orientation. for me i maynot get my first paycheck until mid october( i start on the 21 of this month) the pay rate is at 450 for first few weeks then goes up to 500 in the last weeks.

i dont know much about the cdl testing location. i will ask my recuiter.

    i hope this is helpful

Or they can't afford internet... Like the non-existent cb radio's they have.
