It amazes me everyday with new threads with owner operators that don’t know their trucks. And here we have a guy that bought a truck without testing every option on the truck before buying. Obviously you didn’t test for jake brake operation. What else did you not check. Looks like a nice truck where do I sign?? This floors me. Sorry this doesn’t help the situation but just had to speak my mind

Did you have a Dyno done, valve cover removed, ecm dump, or anything else done during your pre-purchase inspection?

You are talking about a day where trucking was considered a skilled trade. Truckers knowing about gears and downgrades and proper braking. Today’s age is automatic and let the truck figure it out for you. The reason why any idiot can get hired and text and smoke pot while doing it

I am glad to be able to take this easy job you speak of. I see daily at school those that would disagree, but I am happy to give it a go. With good ethics, commitment, and desire to work , this is a great profession to be in. Buying your own truck is a risk. Read and learn as much as you can about your truck. A local shop may still give your truck a look over and give you advice on how to protect your brakes and investment. Worst case they might charge you an hours labor? Think about getting a maintenance package from them that will do your brake inspections every 5-10,000 miles; Fluids ; Tires: whatever. In California a couple shops had service packages like this so independents had the same savings as larger carriers. Dump trucks need a lot of regular work to keep the troopers off your back. TO be able to say every 90 days a mechanic checks it over or every 5-10,000 miles might make the difference between a ticket and a warning.

Not a single one of you even bothered to correct this guy. 1st off an ISX never had a "Jake brake" because Cummins has their own engine brake.

And this dude has never run truck before, yet goes out and picks up a 15 579 and make it a dump truck without even knowing wtf he's doing. I need to figure out where the F all these money trees are.

You will have to take it to some shop and have the valve that changes the way the brake air press. is sent more to ft, axle than drive axle when the red emer. valve is not pushed in taken out, i cant spell it but someone will come up name in a bit?

Why do you need an engine brake for a dump truck?

I think the dealer meant to get the vin off a similiar engine that had the jake factory installed.
That way they can find the missing parts.

AModelCat and Chubby Fly Thank this.
