I took about 4 years off after doing 20 years in the military. I was just traveling in my RV and living off my savings and retirement and didn't want to get into the electronic engineering field working for the government because I was already tired of working for the government and that's really where the money is for what I am experiencing doing.

So same as you I realized that I like to drive around and already spent some time in truckstops spending my own money thinking that I'm already doing what these truck drivers are doing except I'm paying for it instead of getting paid.

Don't believe that you can't make money the first year either. Just don't go to a company that isn't paying you at least 45-50 cpm. 65000 or probably even more is possible the first year but that isn't going to happen driving for one of the bottom feeders. I did pay for my own cdl though. I didn't let myself get held hostage.

I wasn't really asked about why I didn't work for all that time either but maybe it's because I actually did retire from the military but truck companies seem to like hiring people unemployed for over 6 months because they even had special paperwork for it which tells me that they are getting some govt money.

I think what some forget, is, everyone has to start somewhere, and everyone has been new at a job. We weren’t born truck drivers, and we certainly weren’t necessarily born with the skill set.

Sounds to me that this young lady has a lot of determination, and has done a bunch of thinking. I say go for it, welcome aboard! She has nothing to lose besides money, and frankly, money doesn’t matter if you’re doing what you want to do.

Okay, ( tires screeching), this changes everything. Like I said before, a lot of people, not just women, especially with the limited choices for people today, a trucking career is a viable alternative, and equipment today allows that, except they go into this without full knowledge, and find out the hard way it's not for them. You already have an edge, you know what trucking is about, a huge plus. You also have the luxury of this site, something years ago we would have killed for. Back then, it was trial and error, but the "error" didn't cost millions of dollars, like today. And another thing, sounds like you aren't pressured to do this, another big plus. Just be careful, dear, no teaming crap, do it yourself, and above all, invest in a dash cam. You sound pretty cool, if passing thru central Colorado,( Hy.50 bypasses Denver) stop and say hi! :wave:I think you'll do fine.

I agree with your thoughts. I think she will be fine though. We all gotta remind ourselves that through all the bad about trucking, it's all in what you put into it. All that bad stuff mentioned, don't matter once you learn how to work out here. If one goes in with an entitled attitude, and you cant teach that rookie anything, they'll fail.

You'll get sick of teaming real quick when you realize you're forever stuck in the same tiny space with someone else with no real privacy .

If you want a companion bring a spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend , or a pet. Anyone else I personally wouldn't want to be 10 feet or less away from at all times.

I can deal with it and I follow a lot of women truckers who also do it safely in strides ❤. And say I don't like it or don't want it. It's my very own decision... no one else has power over me or my decisions NOBODY! it just makes me want to prove it MORE. I'm done with this conversation ✌
