Despite what many may tell you, most trucking companies are still hiring. The company I work for has around 300 total drivers and we’ve hired at least twenty drivers in the last two months. One thing that’s awesome about trucking. No matter what, freight has to be moved

Whatever the heck you do, do not tell them you had an inguinal hernia mesh surgery 12 years ago. Don’t tell them jack-squat about your medical history. They can’t find out unless you had a workers comp claim.
Cypress Truck Lines took a fat, lying SOB who didn’t disclose his TWO hernia surgeries. They took overweight, Big Mac eating MFers who looked like they were going to drop dead during the tarp test, who couldn’t straight-line back in ten attempts.
But they rejected the one guy who was getting up before dawn to work out in the parking lot, who sports this stunning abdomen:
Yes, I’m still bitter, but at least I’m home every night to drunk-post on TTR.Lonesome, tommymonza, born&raisedintheusa and 2 others Thank this. -
I made it to Springfield today, Wilson has really been extremely gracious to me. First, they rent me a car to drive to orientation. Secondly, they say keep the gas receipts, we'll reimburse you. Thirdly, they say oh since it's over 10 hour drive time, if you get a motel on the way to orientation, we'll reimburse you. They rent me a Uber to get back from the rental drop off. And if that's not enough they put me up in the finest hotel, I have ever stayed in for orientation. I can't say enough good things about them. My first day starts at 0645 so i'll be getting comfortable here soon. Join me on my adventure. I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride.

Well, I survived the first day. WHEW!!!! It started off very early, at 0645, don't miss the bus. The bus driver took us to Wilson Logistics training division in Srpingfield. There we met the safety director, the pad instructors, and our classroom/computer instructor. We handed over our documents (Long form physical, DOT medical card, CLP, drivers license, SSC, and birth certificates). We watched a couple of videos, they instructed us on the JHA for truck driving, they showed us the proper way to lift the hood. The proper way to climb into the truck, the proper way to check the fifth wheel and locking jaws, then they bused us over to the medical clinic to perform the DOT drug screen. We had sub sandwiches for lunch. After lunch we went over more pre-trip information, student trainer expectations, and general knowledge information pertaining to pay, upgrades, and bonuses. Pro-tip: Study your pre-trip now. Study your pre-trip now. Wilson will not be pleased if you are not trying. It's okay to fail or falter if your trying. But simply showing up is not enough.
