Update. DEF injector was crapped up. After cleaning and a manual regen, I am now rolling again.

AHI is for the 7th injector. It regulates the air pressure and combines it with diesel to get the spray pattern during regens. The DEF injector sprays exhaust fluid after the DPF filter.
The DEF injector isn't too hard to clean, on a Volvo anyway. If the Freightliner is anything like it, you just take off 3 bolts and pull it out. Then grab some distilled water and a plastic brush and pick. It should be about a 15 minute job. If you can see inside the exhaust where it attaches, check for crystallized DEF buildups. There is a flex pipe on the Volvo between the DPF and the SCR that you can remove to clean the crystals, but I'm not sure about Freightliner since they have the stupid one box system.
Either way, these are items that should be on a maintenance schedule. If I was running 100,000 miles in a year, then every year I would replace DEF filter, clean 7th injector, clean DEF doser, and change the air dryer cartridge. Every two years, I would look into cleaning the EGR system. Every third year I would look into cleaning the DPF/one box. Then when a problem comes up, you can feel more confident that it's probably poor quality DEF or a sensor that needs replacing.Farmerbob1, Cat sdp, Accidental Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Update.
The truck ran well after the DEF injector was replaced.
In fact, I finally found out where my lost fuel economy was hiding.
I went from a several-months-running average of 6.4 MPG to 7.0 immediately after the injector was cleaned.
This was not the new steers. I reset my fuel economy tracker every time I have service done on the truck. Before the steers I was at 6.3 to 6.4. After the steers I was at 6.4 though it was bumping to 6.5 occasionally.
Immediately after the injector was cleaned, the economy jumped to 7.0 with occasional bumps to 7.1.

Take a hammer to the computer fuel mileage screen and figure your mileage on paper from the pump........
P.S. Have you seen any steam or white type fog coming from your exhaust under heavy throttle....?Rideandrepair, Farmerbob1 and Long FLD Thank this. -

Every vehicle steams in the cold weather. Until the exhaust heats up.
Then you've got single digit or colder weather. Where semi's leave a trail miles long.

OK, had some time to think and read about the A/C issues and reservice.
First, I had an aftermarket, cheap compressor in after the original failed last year.
Second, I now understand that the factory/OEM compressor has a protection feature that prevents it from even trying to engage the clutch if the proper power is not available.
Third, I suspect the cheapo compressor did not have the protection feature, and the improper power coming from the truck smoked it, but the OEM compressor protected itself after it was installed.
Fourth, this explains why the starter was working fine while the OEM compressor was detecting improper power. The starter either has no power protection feature, or it is much more forgiving of different power states, which is expected for a starter considering that they constantly see different power levels.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

I don’t know about your compressor. They claim the Chinese Sanden knock off, is actually pretty good. I won’t buy one, only $60 cheaper. The one I have has a fused clutch. If the compressor locks up, clutch doesn’t. Important on my Truck, since the same belt runs the alternator. I used to have to “short belt” the alternator, running it direct. Hard to do with a pad mount alternator. Belt has to fit perfectly, sometimes I had to use washer as shims. Any Truck with a Sandens compressor can upgrade to the new Fused clutch design. That’s probably what you’ve got.
