Some are, but it's the LENGTH of the hills that is remarkable. Parley just east of SLC is crazy. It's a marathon.

They are way bigger and longer... well the interstates u wont really find anything really big . Its when uget on the state and us highways that the really really big mountains exist ... it is alot like u will find in west virginia and parts of maryland and that part of the country. Except out west they last for more than a couple miles... to me i like to run the big mountains because it keeps the steering wheel holders away

So something like a 9% grade for 5 miles is not out of the question?

Just south of darby montana on us93 between darby and salmon idaho is a fun mountain range... i believe its only 8 percent going up and 6 percent going down but some turns rated for 20mph and u better not be doing anything over 10 if its snowing or u sliding off the road...... It probably last for 15 miles or more if i had to guess

That jobsite that i posted here that ive been going to , not sure how high they are i would guess somehwere around 13 percent or so.. Being that i could pull a 7 percent grade at about 20 mph in 6th gear and the jobsite i am in 2nd and 3rd gear at about 5-10mph with foot flat on the floor. Coming down empty in 5th with the jake break.. Add switchbacks to the mix and it becomes quite challenging , thats why i love the west , keeps u on ur game.

    Here’s you a shortcut.

Loaded around Las Cruces NM going to FT Worth.
There was 5 of us from same company. 3 loaded and took off, me and another guy was there and he said he didn’t like how we helped them tie down and they did that.
I figured they’d run the interstate, so I told him how we could beat them.

We were on US 70, so we ran over to US 82.

82 runs into US 380, to US 281 to TX/FM 199 right to the loop.
We had got there, unloaded, and took a 6 hour nap when the other guys got there after running all night.

There’s some hills, and that guy told me he’d never run it again, but it’s ok, I’ve ran it a few times.

They try to keep interstate roads at 6% or less. but most out here of lots of curves in them while going up or down. Not fun little toboggan runs when dicey.

But Cabbage hill (deadman pass) is 6% for most of the 7 miles.
Deadman Pass, 6% grade for seven miles

Just for Giggles Siskiyou summit is only 6 miles of 6%
Siskiyou Summit, one of the more perilous sections of Interstate 5

Donner is 15 miles of rolling 4 to 6% grade
Donner Pass, a steep road in California

Some guys used to call @x1Heavy bs when he said he was going up and down some 20percent grades , but i can believe it if u are on a private road. Im sure some log trucks and rocky mountain cattle haulers have been over hills that big, probably dirt roads too

I know Monarch is like 7% for 9 miles. Thank God that one isn't on an interstate.

Most of the problem with the holls on the interstate is not the hill it is the crappy steering wheel holders around u that dont give a dang about anything.
