The thing is that the jakes on the truck ALSO operate automatically in response to vehicles detected by the collision detection system. Even if I have the jakes turned off, they still activate to brake the truck if I am overtaking from the rear.
So I knew my jakes were working, because they had worked earlier. But at the same time they were NOT working because of how they were set.
Hindsight is 20/20. I strongly believe I will never have this particular oversight again.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

There is a difference between treating something cavalierly and respecting it's danger in a responsible manner.
Covid-19 will kill people. That's a fact. It is also a fact that overreacting to a threat can be more damaging to a community than the threat itself.Beaver9, stillwurkin, Itsbrokeagain and 9 others Thank this. -

Miles are up now that I'm stable on the national o/o reefer fleet. Last few loads have been averaging about 1500 miles, with about half the stops being live. Current load is a slack load which is letting me do a 34 in-route.Rideandrepair, Tug Toy, Cat sdp and 1 other person Thank this. -

Welp, the two codes that were read were low coolant (expected) and NoX (expected.) I had just come off a 34 when the codes appeared, so the NoX was normal after a lot of cold idling for the opti-idle system. The coolant has been very slowly dropping over the last month and I topped it off that day at lunch, and the L1 code went away.
Had the oil sample pulled, but this Freightliner in Redding, CA apparently does not process oil samples. They will take samples, but not send them away for testing, so I will have to get that done myself. Joy.
The amount of official support for older modern trucks from Freightliner is really going to ####. How in the hell can any manufacturer-affiliated shop not have a process set up for processing oil samples? Ridiculous.
