Learned today how much fuel is not enough when the truck is sitting azzz down a hill along side the house.
When I bought the truck a couple years ago it had 300 gallons in it. Drove it 200 miles to my buddies farm where it spent a year outside getting idled once a month to keep the batteries up.
Moved it another 100 miles up north and put it in my ex mother in-laws place over a year ago.
Whole time paranoid about the fuel condition. I’ve seen big motor yachts with 1000s of gallons get algae growing in the tanks which is a nightmare.
So been treating the fuel the last year and idling once in a while trying to get rid of it because I want to drop the tanks anyways .
The new kerosene garage heater has been eating up a bunch to the tune of 10 gallons a day .
Last time I pumped fuel out of it was this morning and when I Sticked it I still had 10 inches on the stick.
So playing musical boats and cars in the driveway trying to take advantage the last of the warm weather in Northern Michigan I moved the truck down the hill by the side of the house which is a public road.
20 minutes later the neighbor who is head Sheriff pulls in the driveway and inquired why I would park an unregistered truck on a public road even though the public road is NoWheresville.
I tell him my plan and he leaves it at that.
2 hours later I Go and start the truck and get halfway up the hill and it runs out of fuel.
Now I am used to boats. Fuel pickups are mounted in the back. Trucks ? The front of the tanks.
So I grab 30 feet of chain and my wheel chocks and chock it and hook up my chain to the front axle.
Unbelievably there is still a 100 pounds of air in the tanks after a couple hours to release the brakes. Good sign.
Now the only thing I have to pull this 18000 pound truck up the hill is my Little Tiny Wimpy Soccer Mom SUV.
So I lock the old Pathfinder in 4 low and roll it forward a foot. Stop get out and rechock and and go another foot
Rinse and repeat until I got it up the hill.
Once on level ground I pulled it 500 feet to the side of the road and pulled the filter and filled it and it fired right up and pulled fuel up right away.
Turned it around and went down the hill to the house and turned into the driveway nose first.
Well I learned my truck has a low fuel light even though it’s a 1997.
And 8 inches in the tank is not enough on a decent grade.
Long Story Short.
Glad I learned that in the driveway and not at a shipper.austinmike, LoSt_AgAiN, dwells40 and 9 others Thank this. -

I'm at the receiver.
The hydraulic side of the product pump is pissing oil.
Can't get far enough in to see if it's a crack in the pump, or if the bolts are loose.
The bolts are Allen, and I don't have a big enough Allen key with me.
I hope the product is coming off faster than the hydraulics are leaking........
