Companies Hiring In Maine

I have been mostly getting email responses and did get one phone call from E.W. Wiley yesterday. They only run the lower 48 states and don't run in New England. I got a response from Truck Movers and they require 18 months experience for their class A division. I am looking for east coast/New England work. I won't be laid off from my asphalt job until next month so I have some time.

 

I won't be laid off until next month. I am considering getting my hazmat and waiting for the state to mail me the cdl manual. I am in contact with Pottles about updating my application. Lynch scheduled an interview with me earlier this year but cancelled due to being under a year experience. I applied to Treeline in 2018 and they wouldn't consider me without more experience. I am not experienced enough for logging. I am going to start calling companies and talking with them directly. I am not impressed with Truckers Report's email that was sent to me with a list of companies hiring in Maine. I have contacted a few and they aren't hiring in the state or my area. Just trying to do research before I walk into a crappy company. I know trucking is not perfect. Thanks for the advice.

 

A quick update on my search for a trucking job. I was laid off from my dump trucking job on November 1st. I have been searching for a trucking job online, by phone and the occasional old school visit to fill out an application. I have been fishing and throwing back a few offers of living in a truck for 2-3 weeks at a time from a sample of major national carriers. Since my experience is regional and local, I have been trying that route in my search without any luck. Last week, I filled out an application for a class B driving job that looks promising. Two of my references have let me know that they got a call from the company. After not hearing from local companies about my application, I sent an email to one of them asking for consideration and advice. Pottles has been advertising on Craigslist twice for a regional driver from their Hermon terminal. I updated my application last month and have not heard a word from them. I emailed their recruiter in a nice professional manner to inquire about their training program and to arrange an old school face to face meeting. I wanted to get some advice or sense of direction. It turns out my 10 year job history contains a lot of seasonal work and not staying too long at jobs beyond the season or past 3 years. Even thought it felt like a knife in my gut to read it, It was the ugly truth. They also are looking for more experienced drivers and the training program may be false advertising. Most of my genuine CDL experience comes from driving school bus. I have worked for two companies in the area when I needed work and a paycheck. I don't fault myself for the opportunity to stay afloat and earn a paycheck. I like to work. It was never my fault that hauling people's precious cargo isn't considered commercial work. I am required to have a CDL in order to drive one. The first class A driving job that I found was a part time/fill in position that was similar to a seasonal job. The work dried up along with the communication from the company. It gave me experience but no work equals no paycheck. I found a full time Class A driving job hauling debris/trash and landscape materials via a live floor trailer. I worked there for a Summer before seeing an opportunity to work for Unifirst with a 4 day work schedule. It seemed like a great opportunity and I was told I would be a great fit for the job. It was a temp to hire job and I took the chance/risk of being unemployed. I made 8 trips to New Brunswick hauling laundry and on the last day I was told I was too short for the rack system and too slow loading the truck (They never apologized for the more than a few times that they delayed my leaving time due to lack of soap for their machines). After losing that opportunity, I went back to bus driving for two years because a steady paycheck is better than none. In March of 2020, I was furloughed with pay from the bus company due to the Rona virus in schools. My Summer gig was cancelled and I wanted to work. I put out some applications for both A and B level work. I got a few calls and took a job driving dump truck and hauling paving equipment. That experience would put me over a year of official Class A experience. Not with one company but experience non the less. Earlier this Spring, a recruiter from another company in the area told me I only had about 8 months of real Class A experience and I made it my goal to get over 12 months. When I was laid off I was over a year of experience. However, recruiter have told me that I need OTR experience. I am not making this up. I decided today to continue looking for work as my goal is to drive some sort of truck for the rest of my career until I retire in 20 years. I am not venting but sharing part of my story of the real world experience of finding a trucking job while living in the Bangor, Maine area. I am open to some real guided advice about where to go next. I am not quitting this search.

 

I sent an email to them earlier this year and I got no response. Companies that don't respond to my inquiries or applications, I move onto other companies. I look at it like this, "No response is a response". Thanks for suggesting them but I remember talking to someone about that company a few years ago down in Virginia and he said "they fire 5 and hire 5 all the time". That tells me there is a high turnover rate. I appreciate your help.
