Hi Guys. Just passed Class A 2 weeks ago. I've been pounding the pavement for jobs and received offer letters from these 3. Reddaway is linehaul and union. XPO and MVE are both P&D. t's a second career for me. I'm in my 50s and in decent shape. All are within 15 minutes of my door. My wife would prefer the day gig but is alright with nights if the company is good.
Any recommendations or thoughts for 1st ltl job?
Reddaway, XPO, MVE

Go with linehaul.
P&D is a fast way to derail a new career because of spending every working day/night fighting traffic congestion. It's not a matter of 'if' you'll have fender benders, it a matter of ‘when.' -
Thanks Chinatown. You have any thoughts on Reddaway as a company?

Reddaway has some issues. While they’re the best run of the three regional LTL carriers owned by YRC Worldwide (the other 2 are Holland and New Penn) the organization as a whole is treading water financially. Last July the US Treasury bought 29.6% of YRC as part of a $700 million bailout. Most of the money was used to catch up with delinquent pension and employee medical contributions.
What that means to you is that you’ll participate in the, “giveback” program. Whatever your total earnings on a given check are 15% of the total is given back to the company. New equipment is rare - expect to drive more 2,000,000 mile trucks than new ones. I’ve personally sat in a traffic jam caused by a Reddaway P&D truck when its driveshaft fell out and rolled down the street while the truck was in the middle of an intersection.
The organization as a whole is unlikely to survive long term. Do you want to invest 5-10 years working for a company only to find out your pension is worthless, your seniority is gone and you need to start over?road_runner Thanks this. -

I once worked for YRC and we always heard of financial problems and the company probably going bankrupt. That was 20 years ago.
