@road_runner i like where your head is at as far as boogieing out of dodge when. They sign. My question, does your handheld allow you to define a stop end time or is it tied to when you close that shipment?

I wonder if going to your next stop could lead to additional delay that isn’t accurate as well as to “falsification of documentation” type conversations with the company when that certain one consignee or shipper calls up.

Well, in my case, he's pretty accurate.

Here is what I can do on my handheld. All the options flag a accessory charge. If I hit sort and segregate it goes to a second screen where I have to add item numbers and weight. The computer knows the rest based how long I've been there.

    FXF needs this.

We also need to go paperless, but that's another story.

You guys don’t use those newfangled handheld things yet? o_O

I figured FXF would’ve been the first to switch to those.

Oh, we have the handhelds, but we're still screwing around with paper bills. Our handheld tech is surprisingly primitive compared to what it could be.

Good Grief.....I know why WE'RE not using hand held tech. Too much interline freight with different bar codes. Not enough uniformity. As well as the cost.

But for FXF, not to be using this? Astounding.

Oh we have updated handhelds, there's just always more they could be doing, particularly for the city.

I never used our city handhelds, but I can say the ones for the road are a thousand times better than the previous device (commonly called "the brick"). My favorite feature is the real time ETA of my meet driver if I'm running a meet and turn. There isn't a whole lot of missing features besides paperless bills and related functions (hazmat tally, recording axle weights, etc).

We used to use it in conjunction to the paper bill (we briefly had a moment where we went entirely paperless and just e-flagged accessories). Then last March the end of the world happened and we weren't allowed to give our handhelds for a digital signature. So now we sign for them and they get a paper copy (which I ironically just held for them).

Reddaway would flat out discipline us if we got caught not adding accessory charges, while their sister company Holland puts little to no pressure on us to add them. Hell, I am worried I am doing all this extra work to no benefit to my carrier. Today I had 1,500 lbs of residential freight I had to break down and handmuck into a garage cause it was too long and heavy for my liftgate.
