Swift used to have the Walmart dedicated out of Sparks, NV. Probably still do. I would not recommend that right out of school. Lots of city driving in N Cal to Walmart retail stores, including the Walmart Neighborhood Markets. Some crazy traffic and tight ### backing. I know when I worked out of that DC for several months, we would occasionally drop trailers or pick up back hauls from Lathrop. Walmart was all 3 zone reefer. Not sure what they run out of Lathrop. It would certainly be worth a call. You will get solid schooling with Swift and run some real nice late model Tractors.

I have always looked for a company with a terminal or drop lot within 1/2-1 hr from the house. preferably 30 minutes or less.(the closer you are is good after a long week and get in late. I've slept in the truck and went home in the am, cause i was so beat).
that way if the job goes south or something ,I'm not stuck packing a truck load of crap on a bus ride home.
you would be surprised how much stuff accumulates in the sleeper after a few months/yrs. lolJaxx34, Lostmykey, NavigatorWife and 3 others Thank this. -
you may have to check with storage companies, tow yards, maybe an industrial park with a possible secured lot.
also, leaving your car, leaves it wide open to an errant trucker side-swiping it, and taking off.
get a job where you park on the property, go out for the day, get back, and go home.
that non-sense of taking a truck home, never flew with me. if they had no place to park, then i wasn't about to look for it, and pay for it.
some companies "may" reimburse you for "secured, fenced-in" parking....many others, you pay....period.NavigatorWife and Jenn72 Thank this. -
as it is we as drivers are 1000% responsible for everything, from soup to nuts, and then we even gotta have sleepless nights, worried about where you park?
and be 1000% responsible if it gets broken into, or tires or batteries get stolen?
what's the first thing they ask..??
was it a secured parking area?NavigatorWife, Jenn72 and Numb Thank this. -
They'd probably put the truck in the house eventually.NavigatorWife and buddyd157 Thank this. -
FFE does have terminal parking for it's drivers. My car stays parked for 10 - 12 weeks @ a time. The truck stays parked at the terminal during home time. If I rent a car during my 34 my truck stays at whatever terminal I am at. They also have a pet & passenger policy.
If you want to know anything else, let me know & I will answer your questions.BearDown, NavigatorWife, Speed_Drums and 2 others Thank this.
