Too much legal B.S. for an employer to hire under 18 now. Not worth the paper work.

Society dictates that at 18 they move to the basement to sponge off you some more.

What my pops did was assigned chores that he paid minimum wage for.... Laundry, clean the Bathroom, Vacuum the floors, that kinda stuff.
Win Win: He paid less than bringing in a maid, and I had pocket money to figure out how to manage my personal budget.

This was put on me right after the 3 choices conversation. "You got three choices..... Adoption: you are not to old to be put up for adoption. Military School, Or Straiten Yourself out. What's it going to be?."

Of course for that conversation to have weight you must have the compliance of the mother unit......

We brought the hippies rice cakes from the left coast, now we're taking the homeless beer from the hippies.

Paying for services doesn’t work either.
Offered to pay for washing car/pickup $20 each.
They’re not filthy, wouldn’t take long.
Mow the grass, $20 takes about an hour.
He thinks it’s not enough, I told him he’s in for a rude awakening as $20/hour is more then I got for doing it at his age, and more most people get paid.

I remember at 16 I got my first JOB, working at a grain elevator. I was BALLIN at 8.25/hr working 50-80/wk once school let out. Paid for my 1st car over the summer, and stillbhad money to out together the best closet I'd had. Of course I was so tired after working that I'd go to my girlfriends house and fall asleep anytime we were watching a movie.

I was working before 16, that was just the first time I had to fill out paperwork that said I was working lol.

You're the parent. Make him do it. If he does a good job. Then pay him.

    Top reasons it doesn’t work.
“It’s to hot to make him go out there and do that.”
    “He’s bored.”
“He don’t know how, don’t care to learn.”
He’ll do it, but you gotta stand there and watch to make sure.
    Lazy.

My first actual job was parking cars, $5.50/hour.
Before that it was mowing yards which varied on yards, and of course, seasonal and hot work, and didn’t start out with a zero turn.
A little push mower that was worn out 3-4 years before I got it..
