It's a beautiful day on Poncha Pass. It's a little smoky in the San Luis Valley (and the Arkansas Valley) from the fires further west. I'm kicking myself that I didn't stop at Wolf Creek Pass to take a picture, since it was as clear as I've ever seen.

Also, for those keeping score, the CSP had a pop-up inspection site going on US 285 just north of the intersection with CO 112 near the humble village of Center, Colorado. They were harassing some poor guy with a pretty truck and an empty flatbed, so they waved me through. I guess Colorado is a week behind Montana.

Michigan potatoes make great French fries. Also potatoe chips. Not so good baked or mashed. Thin skinned. When I was a kid, we would sell 100# of unclassified potatoes for $1 . Some were green skin. My Boss Lady claimed it was from sitting in the field in the sun. Maybe they had gotten wet? Dig up too early, maybe? I don’t know. They tasted just as good as any. I’d always come home on Saturdays with a couple boxes of produce. Give it to family, friends parents, and neighbors.

Late into summer, around now. Michigan often runs out of potatoes. I’ve hauled a couple loads from Florida to Detroit for potato chips. Apparently the flavor of both are very similar. Florida’s look darker skinned and were very sandy. I though that was strange. Florida? Of all places.

Looking at those photos is really causing me to remember how badly I want to drive over donner one more time before I depart this life. I have an old friend from my Air Force days that lives in Truckee California. He has already told me he would love to pick me up at the Reno Airport and drive to Sacramento and have dinner! Maybe one day when all this Covid insanity is over I can get out there.
