Sounds like someone is still butt hurt for getting shown to be wrong. You might want to take some valium before you give yourself a stroke.

I know a guy that along with several other people has formed a company! They are in the process of getting DOT Authority and trying to secure a line of credit to buy some equipment! Every one of them is waiting on these things! Honestly, for the first time in almost 10 years, I am starting to wish I could still drive! These guys have found a niche segment and have assurances of getting good high-paying freight!

You shouldnt be asking us. You should be asking the state where you live. Here in Maine you are allowed to talk to the examiner. Tell them why you want to use said vehicle and trailer. They will understand with in reason

rollin_renegade, Hazmat Cat and ZVar Thank this.

I agree, so much of this is state-specific. Some states allow the examiner some discretion and some not so much. The OP needs to let us know what the state is!

    1. Most companies won't hire you without a 160-hr training certificate. It's not the companies making the decision - it's their insurance. It's expensive enough to insure a new driver with no driving history in a CMV. Getting an agent to insure a driver without a training certificate requires you to grab your ankles and call him, "Daddy". Most companies won't do it.

    2. If you can't afford training, how about using FREE gub'mint money?

    a. Go here.
    b. Select your state.
    c. You will be directed to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) site for your state with information on how to apply for the program and generate a list of approved trucking schools that will train you.

I have known of a few companies that have several trucks that they leave at the DMV and rent out for tests just for this

I would go that route and if you can’t get hired then take the class

I would think any potential company would give you a behind the wheel test anyway

I know a lot of guys who grew up around machinery that could put drive most schooled CDL holders

    Dennixx Thanks this.

Insurance policy in almost every situation in fact should be thought of as law. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen @Ridgeline say in these boards, and other CMV owners say those magic words, "My insurance carrier won't allow it". The large mega's self underwrites, but the smaller carriers can't do it.

With this, all said the OP should land on their feet soon with a CDL and hopefully a good job! There are many options open to the OP! I just wish them the best of luck and hope they have a long career and make a lot of money!

Asking those guys is part of the plan, just not the first part.

Disinterested parties usually offer good info. Thank you for reminding me!
