So, I've only been driving on my own for 3 months. I have gotten 4 different trucks because of mechanical issues and have not gone a full week without having tractor or trailer problems. I love the routes I usually have but I cant seem to run for very long before something happens. There was only one incident that was completely my fault (dropped trailer) now I check and recheck every time. I guess im wondering if this happens to every newbie. Am I being tested or should I find a new carrier to work for?

I thought you had to have a year or two experience before Poly Trucking would hire you.

Change jobs. National Carriers has the reputation for doing that to solo drivers.
Which state are you from? Maybe we can help you find a decent carrier quickly.

Unless someone else hooked it up for you, however that's why we do a pre - start very important to check that the jaws on the fifth wheel are locked in a simple method is just before driving off pull the trailer brake lever and try backing it up, if the jaws are released they will relock this is to prevent anyone who might willfully pull the lever to release the jaws while your sleeping it does happen. The other issue is if someone hooks up the truck to the trailer and does not lower the trailer onto the fifth wheel to make sure there is no gap this is the sure way to ensure there is no space between the fifth wheel and the king pin, back the fifth wheel under the trailer not all the way then get out of the truck and raise the landing gear up about 1 1/2 inches to make sure the whole weight of the trailer is now resting on the fifth wheel get back in the truck back it up till the jaws lock, do the tug test at least 2 times, every time you drop and hook and you'll never have any issues. Get back out raise the landing gear all the way up connect your brakes and electrics check that all the lights work, brakes work and your ready to roll. This stuff should of been taught to you during your CDL training.

That was the least helpful rant ever. I didn't read all of it because you don't know the whole story and the dropped trailer wasn't the issue of this thread. Thank you.

Florida, ok, let me check my notes: lots of good driving jobs in Florida.
Are you South or North of Interstate-4?

Submit online applications from the websites before any phone calls. Wait a couple of days, then call and say, "I'm checking on my job application."
