What Do You Do To Stay Fit As a Trucker?

I used to be much into exercise. Ran three marathons in my life. At one time hired a trainer. In no time I was up to 265 pound is muscle. He wanted to start training me for body building.
Time has gone on. I have a lower back injury from falling on ice. It was bad. Then went OTR. Reefer is too demanding to worry much about taking care of yourself. I’m in dry van now. I’ve reached a point of very hard reset. I feel I can build back from here. Have adjustable dumbbells in my truck. They’ve helped a lot. Because I have a terminal I keep going “home” to. Some privacy. I’ve started carrying a clubbell with me. I also have a kettlebell in the truck. Have bands and such. But haven’t used them much. -
Danny, if you don't mind me asking where you work for and how do you like your company?
I'm also located in Austin area. (Round Rock) to be exact. -
So I've thought of another question for you guys. And I've read some answers on this by searching, but would like to hear more opinions also, because everyone drives in different parts of the country.
For you guys who started out on OTR, how often would you be able to find a gym with parking for a nice shower and work out?
Obviously this wouldn't be feasible in many parts of states, where you have to drive into the city, and the parking is small. But having lived in Houston, Austin, and Dallas, I know where many Planet Fitness's and Anytime's are on the outskirts with good parking for a truck. In fact, my local Anytime fitness in Jarrell, Tx is located right next door to a truck stop. -
Also, I've pretty much set my mind to it that moving to Trucking, I'm going to face a challenge of new obstacles. None of which can't break me, but I think I will have to work on my mental strength all over again to face these challenges.
My dedication to my training ritual will be hard. Obviously driving more than 10+ hours per day or 600 miles can be mentally draining and tough to stay motivated to work out. However, I don't see it breaking me. I work a mentally and physically challenging job currently, where I must be prepared, alert, and physically fit or my life is in danger up in a tree. I still am able to force myself up at 3 am to go to the gym, be at work by 5:30, have my truck ready by 6:30, go do a physical demanding job, than come back train a 2nd round at my home gym, eat dinner, shower, and sleep. It will be a new challenge, but isn't something I haven't overcame before.
The 2nd big challenge will be being away from family and my daughter. However, I've trained my mindset that I'm not scared to go out and be out there to make money the first few years. I'll stay focused on my driving, sleeping, and training. Than after some long weeks on the road, my goal is to completely forget about training and driving on my off-time and cherish every minute with my family, like going to the Gulf or Ocean with my wife and daughter and just getting my mind clearly away from the long hours of driving, training, and sleeping routine.TripleSix Thanks this. -
I too have a planet fitness membership.
Before covid it was nationwide but since they have reopened I changed to just my home gym.
I'm home every night so go at least 3 times a week and walk 1 to 2 miles a day around my facility..a mile a day keeps the doctor away. -
