In July of 2021 I was parked at a glass repair business in my pickup truck. I and several other people were nose in, side by side up to the side of a building. While I was in talking to the person inside, a woman parked length wise behind a few of our parked vehicles. The back of her SUV was only half way across the back of my pickup and due to my camper shell, when I walked out and got into my vehicle I didn't see her. I literally moved my vehicle a foot and hit the side of hers with the trailer hitch that was on my truck.
I wasn't driving a big truck at that time and really wasn't planning on driving anymore (I'm 63) but I stupidly allowed this to be filed with my insurance company and it was labeled as my fault.
I recently purchased a dually and a 40ft flatbed gooseneck and decided to go into hot shot trucking. I was going to run under someone else's authority but I'm finding that no one will take me because of my stupid little fender bender. I now have 10's of thousands of dollars (practically all the money I have) tied up in something I won't be able to do!?!
I then thought I could just go drive a big truck to pay off the debts... but I'm now wondering if I'll even be able to get hired by a trucking company. Would that be the case? I think I'm screwed.
Any advice??

You're good to go for driving big trucks.
You're probably good for Climate Express.
@bryan21384 works there. This company hires drivers that have been off the road awhile.

Depending on what else is on your MVR you should be able to get hired. The applications I have filled out do state something along the lines of “Please List All Accidents Regardless of Fault” and then it’ll have a sub question of asking if it was in a commercial vehicle. I don’t think it should be a huge deal. Sometimes pay is based on your MVR like a clean one you might start at 55 cpm and then you might start at like 53. Something like that. Sometimes when a company follows up and calls they will ask you to explain the accident. If you explain it like you did here, it shouldn’t be a problem. Hell you weren’t haulin ### in a work zone and lose control and flip over and slide into a daycare, you should be alright. Best of luck!

I have learned over the years and not just buy my own experience by hearing other stories that at almost any and all cost keep everything off your record if you can. Years ago I was parked at a gas station that had parking back to back. I got in my vehicle which was a rental car at the time and started to back out. The guy directly across from me also started to back out. I noticed him and stopped. I was maybe 1/3 of the way out of the parking spot. This guy did not see me and he was coming fast. Like he was in a hurry. I blasted my horn and tried to pull forward but to no avail he smacked into me. it put a good size dent in my bumper and broke his tail light. This guy was a drama queen and immediately said it was my fault and I had backed into him. Rather than have a long drawn out argument we pulled up the cost of his tail light online. Which was like $120. I offered him 300 cash on the spot to get the hell out of there. He took it. As for my rental car I found a local magician of a autobody guy and he charged me 100 bucks to pop the dent out and touch up the scratched up paint. $400 in cash and no risk to my driving record. That’s the way you handle things like this. Don’t put them on your insurance, don’t call the police, don’t tell anyone. Now if it’s an actual accident, that’s a different story. But a little fender bender in a parking lot? Forget about it. Just deal with it
