I just got out of federal prison last week. I have been studying hard for the CDL permit exams. I plan on passing them next Monday. I am a hard worker and I pay attention to detail. I have a regular class c license as well. After I get the permit , what should I do? Funds for a CDL school are limited. Thanks

Have you reached out yo any of the schools in California about state funded training or any of the companies that were suggested in your other post?

Your funds may be limited, but plenty of other suckers will pay for your CDL training:

    1) Uncle Sam. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) will pay for your schooling with no contract or obligation. Use the link to learn about the program in your state.

    2) You don't mention your charges. The big ones (for driving jobs) are: Fraud/Theft, Sexual Assault, Drugs and anything involving a motor vehicle. Other crimes you would think might be a big deal (Manslaughter) aren't an issue. Not prying, but knowing how many convictions, for what and how long ago would give us some idea where to steer you. Most companies say something like, "Each felony conviction is reviewed on a case-by-case basis." or, "No violent crimes, no convictions in past 5 years" in their hiring requirements. Hard to give you an idea where to go without more details. I know of at least one company that would probably hire you and pay for your training in exchange for an 8 month commitment, but without more details I can't say for sure.

Thanks for replying. My charge was conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. It was cocaine . It was 3 years ago.

Check with your unemployment office about programs that will pay for your school. You have what they call "employment barriers" - Be prepared for many hoops. The programs have different names depending on state i think. Thats how I got my license in Texas in 2012. They paid for the whole thing plus gave me gas money to get to school - Best of Luck
