I strongly urge you to reconsider with the shortage of truck drivers exacerbating the supply chain shortage there are too many great opportunities today that may be overlooked.
Would not recommend Holland Enterprise in Mapleton, for the following:
Warning: They will coerce you into driving through blizzards when it is not safe.
1. You will lose $50,000.00 every year you work for Holland Enterprises.
2. You will be cheated out of detention pay more often than you will be paid.
3. They do not pay you anything to attend their orientation.
4. There is no sign on bonus.
5. They will put negative information on your DAC report without telling you if your truck is damaged but it is not your fault so insurance will cover it.
6. You will be treated inhumanely if your APU breaks down during winter being forced to run with no heat since their trucks will not idle.
7.You will have more than one dispatcher constantly wreaking havoc on smooth running load planning.
8. The pay is amongst the lowest in the industry.
9. You will have to constantly watch your paycheck for being cheated out of detention or not being reimbursed for work related expenses.
10. You will be forced to chain and risk your life in winter when other companies recommend you to shut down while giving you inclement weather pay.
My opinion: You will lose on average $50,000.00 every year you work for Holland Enterprises, compared to working elsewhere especially with the recent supply chain shortage exacerbated by the shortage of truck drivers. One thing about the 1500$ a week “salary” that the “company across the street with the red trucks” offers, it’s not without a catch. It’s only for a certain amount of time like 4-12 weeks, and then it’s mileage pay. If the driver takes any home time off during that period Holland deducts a certain amount of money per day the driver is off. So basically it’s a “sign on bonus” without looking like a “sign on bonus”. Gpt pays the same salary per week from the start, regardless of time taken off, but there is a goal of a certain amount of miles per month on average. Unfortunately some people get the idea they can just sit in the truck stop watching the free satellite TV because they are getting a set amount of money per week instead of running the miles and racking up some bonus pay. It’s not like the bonuses here are impossible. If you have a bad month of equipment breakdowns, had to take a couple extra days off because of a family emergency, medical stuff, etc you still get the salary.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people get suckered in by schemes of most companies, or expects something the company doesn’t do, even when told up front, and then gets all shocked when they learned what they shouldve understood from the beginning, or ask questions if they didn’t. Its not like the drivers aren’t allowed to ask questions. I will reiterate that all the policies the company has like escrow were made VERY CLEAR when I came on. Is it a perfect company? No. There isn’t a perfect company out here. I’ve had times when the office, dispatch or the shop will fall short on something, be it communication lapses, poor workmanship, or just a plain ####-up by someone. I get on them when someone screws up and it gets resolved in one way or another. I don’t cheerlead for them or anyone else. I just state what I see. I’ve been here awhile and had my ups & down with them like any good company I’ve been with for a long time.
As far as people complaining about escrow, believe if I owned a company I’d would have an escrow policy as well. I’ve had to do recoveries in the past and seen the stupid #### people to when they decide to not just abandon a truck but sometimes cause major damage on it because dispatch wouldn’t give them the dream load they wanted, or they came on thinking they would get home every 1-2 weeks even though this company doesn’t do strictly regional freight, then get all PO’d when they find a well-deserved “abandonment with damage to property” mark on their record. I’ve seen people do that and it’s pure idiocy for any driver who pulls that crap. I know how tempting it is when you’re PO’d at a company for whatever reason, but it ain’t worth flushing your career down the toilet over.Last edited: Mar 13, 2022

Do you feel that Great Plaines Drivers make more than Holland Enterprises when you line up the average w2 from last year? -
To me it averages out the same or very close . If I run 3 1500 weeks out and home 3-4 days on the 4th week, then the check for that week will be a bit smaller. Plus once the mileage pay kicks back in it’ll be the same effect.
Honestly I’ll admit when both companies were linked together some years back Holland was pretty good to work with. I just have no desire to change right now unless the day comes when I have to retire from driving.bzinger Thanks this. -
On the site for Holland the average driver made $75,000 and the top driver made over $102,000. On the Great Plaines site the pay is $65k plus potentail bonus. I think Holland pays quite a bit more and has better looking equipment. Thats why I asked to see how come Holland advertises more pay?
Anonymousproxy Thanks this. -
Well, that 65k doesn’t include bonuses that go on top of it. And they’ve kept making changes to make it a bit easier to earn bonuses and it’s all salary. I can’t see myself going back on milage pay.
most complaints I’ve heard while in here from drivers who were leaving were either they expected something the company doesn’t do (we’re OTR not regional so obviously getting home weekly isn’t gonna work with this kind of running), or they couldn’t grasp the concept of OTR driving. Or they just expected to get a free salary and just sit in the truck stops and not do any work for it. (Trip planning or doing pretrip/posttrip seems to be a lost art with the new breed of drivers these days).
