It's a rigged voting system where management votes for itself, the old crusty spy drivers vote positive and new drivers are basically told 'say good things or else....'
I say 'spy' because the old timers will follow the new guys around and spy on them, then report what they see. They are also told to tamper with trucks and trailers. For example, a new guy is supposed to pick up a loaded trailer somewhere, the driver manager will send out one of the old crusty spies who will, let air out of a tire or 2, mess with the trailer auto inflation system, make the reefer not work, do something to the lights.
Then the new guy comes along who may or may not find the problem. If they find it, obviously it has to be fixed making him late. That makes him look bad. If he decides to run with it, he risks an out of service.
All kinds of games are played at this company. We went through them all. If you really believe it's a 'best fleet' all we can say is heaven help.Another Canadian driver and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -

So take a company like Veriha - or as I like to call them "Schneider Jr". They talk a great game and look great on paper, but when push comes to shove they are a mega wanna be. Yet year after year they make the list, despite paying less than Schneider pays Green Bay based drivers, with more expensive health care than Schneider, less home time than Schneider, older average age of equipment than Schneider, etc, etc, etc. So why does Veriha make the list? They make a big push to get drivers to fill out the surveys, particularly their long term drivers. Getting 20% of their drivers to fill out the survey is only 100 drivers, getting 10% of Schneider drivers to fill it out would be 1,000 drivers. Half the percentage, but an order of magnitude larger. Just getting the total number in is easier, but it's also much easier to cherry pick who is filling out the surverys. It's the same reason CSA scores are meaningless - you can't compare megas (3,000+) to large fleets (1,000+), to medium fleets (500), to small fleets (100) to micro fleets (20 or less). For the tin foil hat wearers - how do we know the surveys are being filled out by actual drivers? The company has all the information they need to fake them.
I seem to remember that Farm2Fleet managed to make the list, just before they started circling the drain. The award is only worth something if the company can get recruits out of it. -

I don't know the details of their growth but buying companies and taking on debt can be problematic when a downturn in the economy comes. Look at YRC and yes they are still in business but the union drivers took pay cuts and had retirements reduced.
