It is what it is with Megas. It's a form of psychological warfare.

A 'proper' inspection typically takes a good amount of time but very few actual due a full inspection twice a day, everyday. I simply log as I do it, so if I just check lights and tires before going then my pre trips would just be around 6 minutes.

I only received a violation letter one time but they never sent me another one. Don't think I ever logged over 10 minutes on any pre/post trip since I started working here 3 years ago.

They tried that crap when I was at Crete. I told them I log it like I do it. They said that a proper pretrip can't be done in under 15 min. When I asked how long it takes them to do one, they said they had never done one...to which I said, then how the hell do you know how long it takes. Since I am the professional driver and you drive a desk, then I believe I know how to do my job better than you. If you persist in requiring me to falsify my logs by adding time I haven't used, I will be happy to talk to the DOT about it. Eventually they quit bugging me about it.

I typically do an 8-10 min pretrip (logged) and I’ve never failed a DOT log inspection.

Maybe your Safety department should get their CDL’s and try driving some…

Actually if they didn’t send you a message, then you passed the audit.
I got messages from safety saying they wanted more on duty rime.

They'd never pass the test...I do 10ish min for a pre, and 5ish min for the post(since we only have to do a DVIR now if we find something amiss)

When we used paper logs,DOT wanted us to flag a pre trip, with showing 15 minutes.
Safety doesn’t get the Flag part, which we can now show using 1 minute.

I remember a story of a driver who logged exactly 15 minutes every time get hammered by DOT.

DOT printed out the complete inspection sheet and asked the driver to do it in EXACTLY 15 minutes. Needless to say he couldn't and he got a citation for falsifying logs for every pre/post trip

The 15min bs comes from the increments on the paper logs, but fmsca regs doesn’t specify how much time but just specifies a pre trip be done.
