I'm a TN CDL holder with a decade's experience safe driving, got my hazmat 5 years ago, and it expired. I let it expire because it wasn't worth the headache for me to go through that process again. I was informed today that my CDL has been "Cancelled" for "Failure to Surrender Hazmat". I'm not sure what this means, and the airheads at the help desk keep saying they don't know either. Has anyone here dealt with this? How do I go about getting my CDL reactivated?
Hazmat Endorsement cancelled my CDL?

Just read about it. You must either renew it or have it taken off your license. BIG deal in TN letting it just expire. Go visit the RMV and take care of it.

Possibly you misunderstood- they cancelled the Hazmat portion but I’m sure your CDL is still active. If in any doubt - go online and request a MVR or worst case scenario head to the DMV and renew your CDL if it indeed has been canceled- do it quick - most states cancel it permanently if not done within the stipulated time frame

Its part of the hazmat laws. If youndont renew you need to actully go to a physical license location to have them remove it and reissue your license. I recently gave mine up in SD due to it being a 2 month wait to get an apointment to renew my hazmat and had to go through that process. If you dont you lose the CDL same as if you let your medical expire and dont mail a new one.
Not a big deal but get it fixed fast or it can be a massive pain to reinstate it. -
Your license is still showing that you have the endorsement (just guessing) without an expiration date.
Just go to your dmv and get an updated license.Flat Earth Trucker, tscottme, CAXPT and 3 others Thank this.
