Did the same thing ... when they put the contract front of me and I realized I was essentially paying an APR of 50% ... said nope I'll pay front.

 

When I was at CRE in 09, major accidents were like train derailments ... happening about once a week.

 

There was a young man, I felt so bad for, went through all the BS, got his new FLD, dropped the trailer ( Loaded ) right there in the yard.

Bad hook. Fuel tank snapped off. Turned into a HUGE MANATEE.

His first load as a solo.

Worse yet it wasn't even the right trailer. Was some fine ### little blonde cow girls that dropped it to get her truck fixed.

Loaded with beef.

The horror.

 

Watched a couple of CR England "trainees" pull into my company yard to deliver a sub-service load. Went through the open truck gate and hooked a hard right. Ripped the gate clean off the hinges. They felt real bad and explained that they were brand new drivers on their first trip out and supposed to have a trainer with them in the truck. Apparently the trainer had abandoned them and walked off the job halfway through the trip. The pair didn't know what to do at that point, so they called dispatch to see about getting a new trainer. Dispatch instructed them to complete the trip to deliver the load on time, and they would get a new trainer as soon as they could get back to a terminal. I kinda felt bad for them once I heard the story. I still wonder if the driver was fired right after the trip...

 

10' 3" or 10' 5" CLEARANCE, So That means 13 Feet or 14 Foot Yes? So Y-B-I-Stuck??

Ok, so why wouldn't dispatch be held accountable? Or fined?

They told the new guys lies, the burden should fall on dispatch.

 

That's not how it works in the trucking industry.
In a preventable accident, the driver is held accountable for everything. It doesn't matter what dispatch tells the drivers to do. That is why it's up to the driver(s) to refuse to operate if they feel that the conditions are unsafe. In this case they should have told dispatch they didn't feel it was safe to continue without a more experienced and qualified trainer present. Document and record the conversation with dispatch if possible. Because they seemed to be new to driving, they were probably afraid of the consequences of refusal. Trucking companies and dispatchers know this, and take advantage of the naivety of inexperienced drivers...Sad.
