A fellow driver and I had a debate the other day.

At the Boise City, OK exit on 287 has a Green Weigh Station sign that says “Weigh Station Next Right”. At the exit it says Weigh Station.

    Google Maps

Then another sign below it says

    Boise City
    Guyman

    Google Maps

Do you have to go in for a green sign with white lettering?

I was under the impression you only had to go in when a White Sign with Black Lettering states “All Trucks MUST enter weigh station” or similar wording.

He says you have to stop there. The signs do not state All trucks or CMV’s MUST exit.

But I don’t run wild all over like he does, so I wasn’t sure. I’m limited to Colorado and Kansas. Our signs have the white sign with black lettering that direct trucks into the weigh station.

    Limon Weigh Station WB

Kansas Weigh station @ Kanorado EB

So I’m confused as to the proper legality here.

    Thanks.

I tried to attach pics but the forum doesnt allow for that. So I posted the google map links.

I think all the OK signs are green with an open or closed sign. The newer scales have electronic signs saying if you can bypass or not. I do know Boise City usually has a couple OCC cars sitting in there so running it is a 50/50 endeavor.

I always stop at that scale if it's open. There's no bypass signal. Better safe than sorry.

The biggest problem with legality is that it is going to vary based on the officer, the judge, and how much money and effort you are willing to spend on your case. The easiest, safest thing to do is to just stop for all the weigh stations unless they say closed. It sucks that it boils down to interpretation, and that some judges prefer the spirit of the law while others prefer the letter of the law. It's even worse when the same judge changes their judicial philosophy from one day to the next for whatever reason. You might be legally correct, but unless you can convince the right people, there's a chance that it doesn't matter if you're right.

Even if you can show that black and white signs pertain to regulatory signage, while green signs pertain to location, there can be a law buried in the state statutes somewhere stating that you shall stop at all weigh stations or something to that effect. Even if no statute exists, the judge might rule that it's common knowledge, and that everyone knows you're supposed to stop at weigh stations. Keep in mind that they are financially motivated to rule against you, as it's a source of revenue for them.

Oklahoma for whatever reason uses the green signs.Long FLD and Paco Taco are correct. The Oklahoma Corporation Commision (Revenue Rangers) sit on US287 waiting for truck drivers that dare disrespect the State of Oklahoma bypassing the scale.Last I was told it's$500 plus.
Other states like Wyoming use the black and white signs for compliance.Example I 90 in Wyoming. If you enter at Ranchester or Sundance and clear the port you will see the green sign at Gillette.According to port officers a guy would only be required to clear the Gillette port if you loaded in Wyoming.Casper is the same thing. When I clear Kemmer I do not stop at Casper. Many times I clear the Frannie port load at Lovell or Greybull.
Then I do stop at Casper.I do stand to be corrected.

You don’t have an “invisible” button in your truck? I press then I pass right around.

Run the OK coop headed west out of AR. They have your plate number, all your information, and how fast you were going when you went past the camera.

It would just be easier if ALL STATES put the “All trucks MUST exit to weigh station” sign in white and black up. Then there’s no question.

I don’t understand the need for all the dumb games. It should be crystal clear in every state you go to.

I went into the Gillette scale and asked if I had to go in if already went through a POE and she pointed to the sign ALL Commercial Vehicles MUST Enter....which is funny because every time I go in there, I'm usually the only one or two trucks in there. I know there are a lot more trucks than that passing by on the I-90.
