With that, i deliver tomorrow in Illinois and then I'm headed home to a generous 6 days of hometime. Hoping to get ready for move out, so mext month i can just pack my car and go. -
Just a small update, mainly for those who might be wondering what lanes Magnum typically runs.
This is starting from my time at home in Michigan until now: MI-MN-VA-NJ-WI-IL-MN-TX-VA
As you can see I've made a rough triangle with my loads. Currently I'm planned on picking up at 2 stops in PA and NJ after my delivery here in Virginia, and taking them to North Dakota. Most lanes are easy to run.
Don't let New Jersey scare you. It's easy to get in and out as long as you use common sense and trip planning. Plus I love the miles to NJ and back. The PA/NJ to ND load is over 2,000 paid miles including my deadhead from VA.
We don't go north of PA/NJ, hence our lack of New York HUT stickers on our rigs, and the farthest southwest we go is Salt Lake City, so no dealing with the shenanigans out in California. I've done a MN to Plant City, Florida run but I'm not sure of the frequency of those.
That's just my runs coming off my last hometime. We have a ton of freight that runs into and out of North Carolina, even though i haven't done one of those runs in a few months. We also have reasonable freight going to the pacifc NW, and those are always great miles if you can snag one.
We also move a lot of freight to and from OK/TX too. My favorite lane is probably TX to CO then the beer load back up to ND. US-85, especially between Cheyenne, WY and Spearfish, SD, is a desolate but beautiful drive. You can go a long time between seeing signs of civilization or even other vehicles.

So i picked up 7 pallets in Bethlehem, PA. 5 for Grand Forks, 2 for Bismarck. Picked up the rest in Elizabeth, NJ. Again some for GF, and some for Bismarck. Both going to US Foods in both towns. I have a couple pallets where the tops of the frieght weren't wrapped, and i don't have anything to secure it with. I've been neglecting to put my one seal i have for this load on until i actually get to Bismarck. I've just been checking the back regularly. A few cases of shrimp have fell off the one pallet onto the floor, but the cardboard is intact. The fact that this is a frozen load probably helps that situation. I'll restack the half dozen of cases or so that fell once i get into Bismarck tomorrow.
My main qualm is that i had the 2nd shipper load the Bismarck freight last, as that's my first stop. But in order to get to their other two pallets of freight that the 1st shipper loaded, they'll have to also offload the 2nd part of the Grand Forks load. I really hope the lumpers at US Foods Bismarck doesn't give me any grief about that, otherwise I'll be screwed.dwells40 Thanks this. -
A Magnum Pete just passed me doing 67. Truck 2001. You guys sure that were governed to only 65? I've had a few other company trucks pass me doing 67.

Anyways, I guess they did away with that little test program but just left the program on some of the older trucks. So that's why you're seeing some drivers in older model trucks being able to go faster but it won't be consistently, only for a short period of time. Doesn't really make a difference mileage wise for the day (because it doesn't last long) but it was nice to be able to pass other trucks. -
