I’ve seen a few companies starting to pay that way. What do you guys think about it? It’ll be better pay or it’s a way to lower wages?

YRC Freight pays overtime after 8 hours.

I am hourly, overtime after 40, and I punch a time clock on the same device that does my elogs. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but it’s not without its frustrations. For one, we have to be on duty within five minute of punching in. That’s our company policy, not sure if it’s a law or not. In theory you could milk the clock all day and pad your hours as much as you want (and we’ve had guys that try it but they never last), but then you are burning up your 70 (60 in my case) and screwing yourself that way.
It works for me being local, but not sure it would work too well in an otr setting.

I no longer drive. This is my opinion on this subject. I am OK with drivers being paid by the mile when the truck is moving. To me, this is not where the average driver is getting screwed over. I just think drivers should BY FEDERAL RULES be paid by the hour for things like detention and breakdowns. I used to run reefer loads. My average time in a grocery warehouse was 3 to 4 hours.
