Opinions on new OTR hourly pay?

depending on wages.
$25/hour at 60 hours$1500(you know they’re not going to pay OT)
vs 2500 miles x.60/mile$1500

 

At least you will be paid for all your time. Hopefully, there won't be any more unpaid time waiting to load or offload.

 

YRC Freight pays overtime after 8 hours.
Also hires new cdl school grads.

 

$30-35. $40 would be to my liking. Then I can work 40 & go home. Share the wealth

 

Too bad they keep their equipment for thirty years.

 

You know they'll pay off of the ELD and set it up where no speed indication for more than a couple minutes automatically kicks you off duty right?

I am hourly, overtime after 40, and I punch a time clock on the same device that does my elogs. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but it’s not without its frustrations. For one, we have to be on duty within five minute of punching in. That’s our company policy, not sure if it’s a law or not. In theory you could milk the clock all day and pad your hours as much as you want (and we’ve had guys that try it but they never last), but then you are burning up your 70 (60 in my case) and screwing yourself that way.

It works for me being local, but not sure it would work too well in an otr setting.

“But but but... I wanna get paid for fueling and doing pretrips and stuff!” Well, you are, it comes out of your mileage pay, you just have to find a carrier that pays enough per mile to offset it!

 

I no longer drive. This is my opinion on this subject. I am OK with drivers being paid by the mile when the truck is moving. To me, this is not where the average driver is getting screwed over. I just think drivers should BY FEDERAL RULES be paid by the hour for things like detention and breakdowns. I used to run reefer loads. My average time in a grocery warehouse was 3 to 4 hours.
