A few years back, there was a place on the other side of the big road from the North 40, called “Country Hooters.” I’m not much of a burger guy, BUT they served fantastic burgers.

Happy travels! The Wytheville T/A is having an IHOP put in, right? So sad to see the Country Pride go,
even though they are far from a favorite of mine. Emporia still has the Sadler's restaurant (now owned
by Pilot) as well as a Huddle House in the old Simmons place. That was a favorite of my uncle.

But the women were ugly. I wonder if they are still open or did the Rona get em.

    Bthomann,

I've always been partial to Iron Skillet/Country Pride but that's just me. The Sadler's in Emporia is branded Pilot fuel and not gasoline and we have eaten in the Hermie and Elliott Sadler's Restaurant. It has always been clean, friendly and the food is good. They also have another truck stop and restaurant further south on I-95 in Dunn, NC. Thanks for the reply old friend. I think the IHOP has opened or at least they told me it would this month, we'll see.

I always liked stopping there on my way to Memphis, and also coming back out of Columbus Ms. Sucks that they can't get enough people to staff the restaurant

The 14 hour rule made me cut down on a lot of my sit down restaurant meals.

Kinda like you’d go inside and eat… if it wasn’t raining?

Some years back, a restaurant manager at one of the stops told me that when the 14 hr rule went in to effect in 2004, there was an immediate drop in their business. And now with so many companies providing fridges and microwaves, and the higher costs of eating out, more drivers are buying groceries and eating in the truck.

I keep food in truck, but if I’m going passed a place I know has good food, I’ll save mine, eat out.
Especially winter if I know bad weather is coming in, I save mine cause if roads shut down they can’t get food delivery either, so 3-4 days they out.
    I still got mine. :p

    Plus my emergency ration.
