@tramm01 I'll tell you something not to say, When my sis got knocked up, I made the statement, “If that kid is to have a chance at life, you should put him/her up for adoption.”

I was hated, told I didn’t know anything, yada yada.

Then fast forward years.

She gave up custody of the little girl at age 5-6.
Took her up to child services and signed her over for adoption.
Can’t imagine the trauma that’ll have on a little girls life, making her wonder what she may have done to deserve that her mother would do that.

Sometimes being a judge of character is a bad thing.
I don’t speak to my sister, haven’t for 2-3 years.

My daughter Keri had something like this happen to her when she was 5. A relative had custody of her and just up and decided she could not handle it. Keri spent the next 13 to 14 years in a series of foster homes. After her first husband started the DV I am surprised she stayed sane. I made a promise to her that as long as I had breath in my lungs I will NEVER leave her and she will always have a home.

In the case of the niece, these things have a tendency to become cyclic. Hopefully, she will land in a stable home with people that will love her and show that love.
