I got a call today with a offer of employment contingent on a drive test and background check.
They said that the team position that was offered wasn't available but local was. To me that still sounds great, maybe even better.
The sign on/retention bonus of $20k for a team driver would change to $10k for local driver. I would get the full $20k if a team spot opens up and they put me there.
Only thing is I have to wait for a drive test because the company I'm with is having me stay out for the next tow weeks and then I'll have to ask for a Monday off so I can take the test.
I want to give my current company two weeks notice because they have been good to me, I just need to make sue I don't shoot myself in the foot with Linde by doing it.
Right now (1am) I just squeezed off the pavement with a bunch of other trucks next to a FlyingJ/Eagles Landings with no on-site parking. On 89 just before Glenn Canyon Dam.
This, this is why I'll be happy to be done with this reffer madness.RockinChair, Dennixx and lual Thank this. -
Mega-congrats!
That's even BETTER....

Well I'm doing two weeks in the truck so I won't be home till the 27th. I have a drive test on the 29th with Linde.
How do drivers mess up a drive test in a automatic? Other than not be an idiot is there anything to look out for when I'm doing the drive test?
Then the background check and two weeks notice to my current employer and the Linde adventure begins.
I just delivered to Pepsi in Las Vegas a and now I'm picking up at Niagara in LV. A bunch of the normal reefer BS and frustration. I told my wife it's a good reminder of why I want to be done even though I work for good people. -
scott180 Thanks this.

Not sure how much prior experience (if any) you have with hazmat and tanker -- so....
One way you can definitely avoid messing up in the test drive--
at each/every railroad crossing--be sure to come to a COMPLETE STOP.
Also--be sure to turn your flashers on when doing this.

The 2 biggest issues that guys have had in the first few days, in my experience, is 1) Put your seat belt on before you move that truck 1 inch. Put it on before you turn the key if that helps. If I'm in the seat to drive, I put it on immediately after I sit down. 2) Dont touch that phone once if the truck isnt in park and the brakes are set. I am so used to having google maps sitting in the cup holder or on my leg, that I really struggled with this. It didn't help that I moved to portland the day before I started at Linde lol.
I'm very excited for you and your adventures so to be. You're going to meet some of the call and demand guys that helped us. You'll enjoy talking with them, especially Keith.......most definitely Keith. He will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.Shiba, scott180, Dennixx and 1 other person Thank this. -
How do you suggest I find out more about these "call & demand" positions that you speak of (above)?
With Linde--are "call & demand" positions location-specific, or not?
Where would those job openings be posted (if any)?
I now have the 3+ years that Linde/Praxair prefers....
--LualDennixx Thanks this.
