If you did switch to local .. how about line-haul ...for somebody like .. AAA Cooper ,Estes ,YRL ,R& L ... pay would be steady with good benefits....and regular home time... they seem to be on a push... for drivers right now

He’s probably bluffing about taking a local job as much as he likes to stay out forever. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into a Crete experience.

Ended up deadheading to the Toledo yard and swapping my conestoga step deck for a regular ole' flatbed, and they already had a set of tarps thrown on the deck (the yard guy put them on there not the previous driver and he had me leave mine on the next trailer over). Then they're sending me to Joliet to pick up an elevator load going to Casa Grande for Monday..

Probably won’t win any awards for “best tarp job ever”, but how well do you really need to tarp something that already has a tarp on it? 17499611-D636-4A66-BE59-E53B92B0ED1B.jpeg

If I'm not mistaken, YRC is union and the line haul pays $100K+. In my opinion, union is the way to go. All time paid.

I will NEVER work for a union company. I absolutely detest unions. Unions are why an economy car costs $40k+.

For the most part, P&D and Linehaul jobs are not really a possibility for me in my area. The closest is between 75 and 90 miles away and the last thing I want to have to do is drive 150-180 round trip miles every day on top of driving all day in a truck. There is a concrete plant about 20-30 miles from me who have bulk trucks hiring, but almost every time I am home I see one of them(from different companies) pulled over getting a DOT inspection, so that type of equipment is on the DOT's radar, sorta like the 'jersey trash haulers in PA.

YRC is union and they're also the lowest paid LTL outfit. $10/hr less than ODFL and FedEx for P&D in my area. The only positive is the union insurance, the rest of the compensation package and equipment is horrible at best.

I don't understand how a guy your age lives paycheck to paycheck. It sounds like you're setting the table for another exit.
