Grabbed a load yesterday, come to drop off this morning, appointment time at 10am.
I call the reciever and ask them the best point of entry in this downtown crowded place. He said the load isn't due until Monday morning. Broker said they're calling the shipper to see what they want to do. Been waiting 2-3 hours for a call back.
I am not going to sit here 4 days. What would you do?

Did you physically turn up at the receiver at 10am, or just call?

What physical evidence do you have from broker on appointment time?

If the details are wrong on the rate con I'd charge them something for it and have the new arrangements written on a new rate con. I'd give them a very short deadline to work it out. If they can't meet the terms, I'd find a place to offload. Depending on the commodity, this may be an issue as well. No matter what I would not do anything without some sort of compensation that makes it worth it to tie my equipment up and prevent it from generating revenue for several days.

So I had the broker ignoring all my calls for about 30 hours, I called and talked to consignee, told them it won't be delivered when they are expecting it because the broker isn't wanting to pay me for my layover time, told them I will more than likely be taking the load back to my hometown (900 miles away) and storing it in a secure warehouse, then once the broker pays me I will let them know where it's at.
The broker called me almost immediately after that conversation asking me how much I want. Told them I wanted $1000 a day ($4000) or I take it home with me and will be charging $7000. They sent over a ratecon to me for $4000, I made them sign it, and explain what the $4000 was being paid for in the ratecon. Good to go. Got a hotel, and now have to deliver it tomorrow morning.

I will definitely be doing this in the future. Last time I deal with this mess

I'm pretty sure it's in the carrier/broker agreement that I am not allowed to disclose their name in instances like these. They out of San Antonio though with their call center being in Mexico

Exactly. He essentially tried to hold the load hostage (at least they'll claim to have interpreted it that way) by refusing to tell them where it will be stored. Also, many Agreements state the Carrier can't also be the Warehouseman. I hope it works out for him but there's a high chance they won't pay when it's due and when/if he tries to file a claim on their bond they'll deny it.
