Retroactive emission standards to get mechanical trucks off the road and make sure everything is computer controlled to be able to run an ELD also. There’s a reason they’re sniffing around wonder about doing away with their pre 2000 ELD exemption.

If this happens, how long before someone comes out with a computer hack to make the truck think it's only doing 55mph when its really doing 70?

Per my favorite Peterbilt dealership..they said that some of the new trucks ecm’s will not be able to turn up past factory settings.
The manufacturer’s are already ahead of what’s coming. Next they’ll be mandated as to the limit.
I’ve said it before, I’ll retire on the day that I’m required to turn my speed down.Blue jeans, olddog_newtricks, Another Canadian driver and 4 others Thank this. -

"We're going to consider regulating manufacturers, but for now, we're going to mandate all motor carriers, but haven't come up with a speed yet"bzinger, cke, LoneRanger and 6 others Thank this. -
Guess we will all have to wait until June to find out, but I’ve read nothing saying this is for new trucks coming off the assembly line. When it came up this last time it was for all trucks and it was going to be up to the carrier to make sure they were compliant. If that’s the case then I wonder what the penalties would look like and how many times you could get in trouble before your insurance says no more.

I'm not sure the regular average Joe realized how much the regulations that are put into the trucking industry, effect their life... the price of everything will continue to go up... I'm not sure speed mandates will solve more problems then it fixes.... Maybe there is a case for it to solve a certain problem.. But I'm not quite sure what that may be...apparently they have never watched the Daytona 500 where everybody drives the same speed all the time and the carnage that ensues.

First, I havent read all the comment in this thread, but if they would charge & prosecute the people who implemented this rule every time a motorist was killed or injured as a result of this rule, this kind of nonsense would cease until they could prove future things like this actually worked in real life situations.
The reason we have these kind of rules force on the US citizens is because the people creating this stuff isnt held accountable for his actions/decisions.Blue jeans, TexasRiverRat, cke and 13 others Thank this. -
With a big sign on the back that says if you don't like going slow and trucks are in your way all the time call the fed! And tell them to be realistic!
