I’ll say this …those cops were without a doubt negligent and deserve whatever punishment comes their way..but guns are not the problem in america..

Latest update…looks like the sgt whom parked his patrol vehicle on the tracks should have never been hired by platteville pd…

you would think the officer who put the suspect in the car is also just as negligent.

The pool of qualified individuals to be police officers is going to get smaller and smaller over time because of the trends of what they are allowed to do, the risks they take for no reward(letting the perps walk with no bail etc) and getting prosecuted by 2nd guessing DA's.
The smaller the force, the less budget they have, the worst of them wind up there. This is a perfect example.
Not only is this guy likely unqualified, but so is the chief who hired him.

Would you want to be a cop in this day and age? Would you suggest to your son to go into law enforcement?

    drvrtech77 and Coover Thank this.

I think everyone of them on scene will be held civilly liable while definitely the one who parked on the tracks criminally liable..i guess we’ll have to see what the DA does now the case is in their hands…

Not just the one that parked on the track, but the also the one that placed her in the car. After all, there were at least 2 cars there.

Got a good young strapping nephew who I was not chuffed about joining the army, didn't like it thankfully but I had concern for his life. He changed to the police force and my concern changed to his metal health. The police carry guns in Aus but firearms are not common in society, or if so only with certain biker gangs and their drug circles. Its the emerging distrust in authority, the same dumb arse % of society you deal with over and over, and the bureaucracy of the department that concern me. The cops I know like their job, like helping people if you call it that, it's the crap from within the organisation and poor outcomes from supportive services that wears them down.

Still I know what you are saying, and one doesn't have to be traffic cop either. I know a young lady who takes great pride and precision hunting pediphiles pretending to be someone she is not.

You're missing a big item - integrity within the police force.

How many good cops quit because bad cops face no consequences? How many potential officers are dissuaded from pursuing a law enforcement career due to police culture? How do stories like Brookside impact the pool of applicants?

DAs second guessing cops because of how frequently officers are caught lying.

Why do poor performing cops end up getting rehired?

Cash bail does absolutely nothing to stop recidivism or increase court attendance rates. What is does do is line the pockets of bail bondsman and keep poor, nonviolent defendants in jail awaiting trial.

They have Qualified Immunity which means they can make a mistake like this and pay no consequence.
