Freight got drastically low in the last weeks. I got laid off yesterday at one of the YRC locations in DFW, TX area. 16 of us drivers got laid off yesterday. We were at the bottom of the seniority. Houston, El Paso locations had lay offs as well. They said there'll be more layoffs nationwide because of low freight.

I got tired of my 600+ mile run after like a month and jumped at the opportunity to take a new run with a similar start time but only 500 miles. Starting to realize it may have been a mistake because this run is a 1 of 1 with no drivers behind me. When they can’t fill two trailers both ways, they just cancel the run and I get forced to the extra board with no good runs to pick from. So far I’m being canceled about once a week and my terminal isn’t even dealing with a freight slowdown yet.

When they layoff, does that ERASE seniority? How does that work? I got cancelled twice this week but I run weekends and deal with central so I can counteract it. I don't mind being off during the week. I ran a Fort Smith today... Easy 600 miles!

The furlough is 12/4-3/4/23. They cover your insurance for 3 months and give out a 3600 stipend when you get back. You go back into your seniority spot when the furlough ends. You are able to collect unemployment too.

I would question the able to collect unemployment.
Voluntary maybe looked at different by the state you're in.
Do you TRUST this company ?
Their treatment of labor in the past is not exactly stellar ...

    Coover Thanks this.

I’m not taking the furlough but they did hold up their end of the bargain during the covid furloughs. At least in Illinois people where able to collect unemployment during voluntary furloughs. It may indeed vary state to state.

So essentially you're seniority is on Freeze if you get furlough?

Press release said they would support unemployment benefits.
    Maybe someone can find it.

And part of the reason is they "don't support labor", and never will unless forced to.

I got laid off and here is my semi official resignation effective tomorrow to my favorite dispatcher

    Hey xxxxx,

Given the current turbulent circumstances which are now Yellow, I have decided to push back into the frozen tundra of Montana for greener pastures.

This has been my home for the previous 15 years and the prospects of steady work is waiting for me.

Aside from the fact that I will not be available for any additional work projects at Holland/Yellow for the foreseeable future, Mr xxxx xxxxx can expect my official resignation over the next week or two, depending how things go during my transition.

On a personal note, this is an incredibly difficult transition and after 20 years in the transportation industry, I find it hard to find another dispatcher that treated me as well as you have.

My advice to you is to keep doing exactly what you are doing. You command a lot of professional respect from those under and above you.

Thank you for the past four years. You've been nothing less than an exceptional boss and I personally wish you the best.
