An old man's career goes flat, Snackbar moves to open deck

Ended up using my magnet strobes last night some...the problem is, most of the body of that thing isn't ferrous metal, so the magnets won't stick. I ended up putting my ambers on the forward wheels and the reds on a back part that has eyelets for safety chains for a trailer.

The one thing that sucks hauling an oversize is speed limits. AZ restricts OW/OD loads to 55, NM says 65. Plus the curfews on my NM permit differ from the NMDOT website. My permit says can only run 30 min before sunrise to 30 min after sunset and a statewide curfew for all roads between 4-6. The website says statewide curfew between 4-6 if your 10' wide or bigger. Also, I had them check with our permit lady, and she said my load size can run any time day or night (night needs the magna-strobes on), with the exception of certain cities where there is restricted couple hours during rush hours....

TX is a joke. In Amarillo, there are 3 exits I have to get off, go down the frontage road to the next entrance and get back on...even if it were narrow lanes, I am just a few inches wider than a 102" box, and no wider than a conestoga's roller tracks.

It has a specific restriction for Albuquerque then has a state curfew- and shows Albuquerque again...unless the 1st one is a local curfew for Albuquerque and the second is a state curfew for Albuquerque as well.

 

Bridget got testy in an e-mail about the permits. I didn't know she couldn't see what I was hauling on the system...so when she ordered permits, the commodity was aircraft tooling. I responded as soon as I saw them and she said I should have told her what I was hauling before she ordered permits. I replied that I have no clue what is and isn't visible on her system and I was told from the beginning that I was hauling military machinery, even before I got the load info, so that doesn't sound like aircraft tooling and that at some point someone at the other end of the Peoplenet knew what I was hauling. Told her it was a military vehicle...then she needed specifics....told her it is shown as VE (ATV), LAV CIIC. Then I sent her pictures...

Oh, and this load qualifies for hazmat pay as well. On one of the b/l it has an 'x' in the hazmat column and lists 40 liters of av-gas, and the battery in the vehicle. But, because it is in a vehicle, it is exempt from any placarding (like a portable parking lot with cars on board)

 

Yeah, I didn't show any arse. The way I figure it, now that I am on the OD list, no sense in getting on the bad side of the person who gets me my permits.

NM was close on weather today. There is a restriction for snow and visibility and between Albuquerque and Santa Rosa it was either light snow or ice fog. But visibility stayed over 1-2 miles, and no road accumulation was present, so I pressed thru.

I dug out my old printer I had when I was with Moore. Already had a spare color cartridge and a black cartridge was $22 (I think I only paid $35 for the printer 5 yrs ago.. they're almost a disposable commodity)

 

Well, things got interesting today. Between Cline's Corner and Santa Rosa, there was a nasty wreck. The way it looked a car either crossed the median or was driving west in the east bound lanes and hit a 5th wheel camper right behind the trucks bumper, then ripped it's way all the way down the side and taking out both of the camper's axles. The car ended up sitting dead center of the fast lane, and there were parts of car, personal items out of the storage compartment of the camper and camper parts everywhere. Only way by was go 3/4 into the median shoulder(which wasn't level). Then, OK scales were taking their #### sweet time scaling out, and validating my permit. All this ate up the extra time I had set to clear Oklahoma county (the whole county OKC and Norman are located, which has a 15:30-18:30 curfew.) And, when just before I went in to see the OK scale master, I finally got my NC permit, and a new TN permit. They were gonna send me thru the gorge but now I am going up 81 to 26 because of some major construction going on.

And, my adaptive cruise has taken a dump which has caused my regular cruise not to work. And it isn't because the Oversize Load sign is blocking it...that part of the system still works because I can still see the speed of the cars in front of me and it still #####es at me when someone cuts me off or is exiting the highway and is 25-30 feet up the ramp.
